About The mummy returns prop-Help!!!

Attached.

That's looking really good Mike and Tomking!

I am not sure what the exact hieroglyph is 3rd down on each side so I just drew one for now... :)

The bottom most hieroglyph on the cartouche is one of the arm and hand holding a something. I cant make out what the something is exactly from the references but using the arm holding a stick would work, and it means 'force' so that seems fitting too:

A bit like this: http://egyptianhieroglyphs.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/D40.jpg

Hey Guys,

Great work, I can''t believe my search engine for the library didn't bring this up.
Which hieroglyph are you talking about, maybe I can help

The first one looks like mouth hieroglyph, but with horns in the corners? The reference photo in post #9 has a fraction of the last hieroglyph and to me it definitely looks like one of the arm ones, that's why I think the arm holding a stick is a good choice. Over to you mathew :D

The second from the bottom is correct. The last one is a arm, that's for sure, but the hand and what it might be holding is hidden.
Let me check my hieroglyphic dictionary. I think it might be a rare spelling for serket (scorpion) . I'll get back to you tonight.

Well here is the altered version for now, let me know any further changes that could be made to make it better & I will see what I can do! :)

Before I go, here's a treat for you. It might need a little prettying up. The other column of text
.nectanebo 3.jpg
*edit* forgot the translation.
[nectanebo] may he live like Ra. He built this as his monument of his father Thoth, the twice great, lord of Hermopolis. He erected the obelisk of greywacke in his (Thoth’s?) house. He enjoyed in (???) in life, stability and health.

I found that behind the movie the Mummy and the Mummy Returns was an Egyptologist. An Egyptologist was brought in to make the Ancient Egyptian sound authentic. He also worked on Stargate.

I had assumed as much when I saw the characters reading hieroglyphs in the correct direction :)

I think we now have all the parts for the left page. The scorpion cartouche is near perfect. If I find something that needs altering I will tell you guys.

What is the correct direction?
You read from the side the signs are pointing ( birds are easiest to see, they are pointing with their beaks to the side you start on).
Unless of course it is a column, in which case you read from that side and then down. Since Egyptian writing is also art and decoration it can be read in almost every direction, though most of the time it is from right to left. Then there's also hierarchical/ honorific transposition in which case more important words are placed before the other signs, Aestethical transposition where signs are switched for decorative reasons etc.
It takes some time to get used to, it's a neck.

To add to what mathew said, if you see a scene with figures then the heiroglyphics about each one will face the same way as the figure they're describing. That way it's clear to see which bit of text is related to which character.

You're not wrong there buddy, my favourite is when they leave out symbols because they would always be there so why bother drawing them all... :lol

Egyptian: 'Here's our basic sentence structure, easy right??? ooog wait, we can leave that out, and this needs to go first because it's the name of a god. you know what, it looks nicer if we switch out these signs. Now that we're at it, lets just park this between here as well. we can just write this with only the determinative, they will get it'
* looks at a massive scribble of signs*
.... You know what it would probably look better in abnormal hieratic' ( which only 6 or 7 people on this planet can read without difficulty)
Future Egyptologist (a.k.a. Me): ............., yup , that's a bird.

This is the mock-up for the whole page, based on Tompkins earlier edition.
It is a rough version. If someone could get me a better screenshot of the other page i might be able to see which text we are dealing with.
I am guessing it is from philae, but I am not sure. And right now i don't have the time to give it my all.

That looks really good, but the left most column of the hieroglyphs needs to be reversed, the original in the film is right to left.

I'm pretty sure that the other page is just sections of the two hieroglyphic columns all shuffled about to fill the page, with a few stars on top.
