Help figuring out if this is a movie prop

EDIT: no longer searching. Thanks for the thoughts!

Hey there!

I just bought this coffin at an estate sale. The only thing I know about the woman who owned the home is that she was an acclaimed artist with a musician spouse. The person who picked this up and brought it to my house told me the wood and screws are from the 50s. He said they seemed original. How would I go about finding out if this was a movie prop? It seems most likely, but I have no point of reference. I’m turning it into a cabinet/the star of my home/display case for my miniatures, but I was a special effects makeup artist once upon a time and would love to know just for me.

I can get better pictures, if it would help, of course. But I figured this would be a “watch all the vampire movies” kind of thing, so the specs don’t much matter.

It could always just be a homemade piece someone made for display. Even if it were from a film, it would be extremely hard to tie it to any production without some paper trail or something unique on it that makes it stand out. A genetic shaped coffin is going to be hard to screen match as, if it were in a film, it would have been a background piece that didn’t get major closeups.

It could have been used as a set piece for a stage production.

Or simply something made for a Halloween party.

Without more information all you have is a coffin.

Good luck on your search.

Great point! Wasn’t sure how into making coffins people were in the 50s—for Halloween or such. Not my area of expertise. Thanks for answering so quickly.
