AA/Diamond $20 Star Trek Communicator: modified with metal parts

Yep, all those "flowing plasma" diagrams in the Engineering displays, on TNG. Mostly in the early seasons, before they started using computer graphics for everything.

\f you are on the fence about getting one of these? wait no
further!!..........It rocks! great sound!! Wayyyyyy better sound than the STTE!!

Well, I said it when the PLAYMATES communicator came out, and it applies to the Vegas comm and the latest incarnation, the Art Asylum comm -- THIS is the toy I used to lay awake in bed when I was 12 and dream about finding at the neighborhood K-Mart or Woolworth. All we had back then was either the lame TRACER guns that looked NOTHING like the phasers or the MEGO walkie talkie communicator or oversize phaser targeting game. And I won't even go into what a HUGE disappointment the AMT Exploration Set was.

So, I'll be picking one up, if for no other reason than as a tribute to my 12-year old self that kept searching department store toy aisles for this very thing.

This would have been to die for as a kid! and I am still 12 on the inside / 42 on the outside! :lol I like mine better than my STTE Just for the sound quality! I could pick it apart? but why!??? It is very cool for a toy! and a few tweeks just for fun and it will be even cooler.....just melted the solder for the extra sound spfx! works like a charm!! thanks Karl!!
I thougt I would hate the little notches on the grid wheels but they give a very nice solid feel when you flip it open!!! If you even 1/2 loved the Playmates you will love this for sure!!

for those wanting to tone it down just a tad a small piece of scotch tape and simply cover 99% of the speaker grill.....sounds great!!

Hmmm... and if you put the tape on the IN side, noone would be the wiser....

Yeah! I just didn't want to pull it apart again right now!! :lol and I wasn't thinking about it when it was apart!!!......but it really helps the sound by toning it down!!.....sounded good from the box!! but even better now!:love

I see STTE Has comms back in stock! I wonder if this is the original style or the new DST????? Anyone know?? they are listed at $30.00

Could not get the exclusive Spock voice. Took off the blob, cut through the jumper etching, darn near wore a hole through the board. Must be why mine only cost $15.00. :lol

You cut through here and didn't get the sound?

I've done two of them, now. I daresay there's only one variety of circuit board in existance.
