5 Mortal Kombat 9 Masks (WIP)

Update: I got the straps/buckle made for the dual scabbard. I'm just waiting on some flat black to paint it before I permanently attach the straps.

That's cool! Have you thought about making the swords with Pepakura? Here is a pic of one I recently finished:

And what did you use for the scabbard?

Thanks, That's great looking!

I did pep a sword but I'd like something that's not as fragile for cons/haloween. These aren't final. I've also got pics of the sculpted handle that I did. I'm just waiting until funds become available to get some more molding supplies.

The scabbard is made out of foam.

Ah I gotcha. Mine is actually resined inside and out, and (mostly) smoothed with bondo, so it's actually very hard and strong. I wouldn't say I could swing it as hard as I could and it wouldn't break by any means, but it will certainly survive being knocked around at cons, and several times has survived (with zero damage) being dropped off of a table.

Well either way, it looks REALLY good. The paint job is very nice! I resined the outside of mine when I finished it. I didn't think anything of the inside before it was too late so I said the heck with it, Foam swords it is!..lol.

Not to mention, my daughter loves having sword fights with me and I'm glad I went that route because something tells me she would just about kill me with a resined one.. :D

Haha that's for sure!

What I had to do to resin the inside of mine was (after I resined the outside with a single layer) I cut the hilt of below the hand grip, then mixed up the resin, poured it in, then sloshed it around the inside until it completely coated the inside, the before it was completely dry I set it up so the resin would settle to the 'sharp' side, and towards the tip, since those would be the problem areas if anyone ever grabs it and plays with it. Then did the same for the hilt, and glued them back together. Then I added one more layer of resin the the outside, especially around the cut around the hilt.

Good idea, Thanks for sharing that. I may try to make another one in the future and use that method!

No prob! I spend a good part of my time making and selling props and I love to pass on the info!

Well it's greatly appreciated :) Do you have a website or other place that you sell your props? I wouldn't mind browsing for fun when I get time here and there.

Thanks! That one was a pretty fun build, though due to some other project I had going I cut a few corners, so it COULD have been better. That's okay though, I'm happy with it :p

Got started on Sub Zero's costume now. Started with the bicep pieces. I started with drawing the design and then scanned it in the pc and photoshopped it to give me both sides.

EDIT: Almost forgot the reference pic!

Finished up the paint on the bicep pads today. Just need to apply the arm straps and they're done!

Update: Worked on Sub Zero's Shin Guards today and they're now finished.

Any feedback on this stuff is greatly appreciated :)

Here's most of Scorpion and Sub Zero's armor pieces. Only things missing are the belts(Scorpions is made, just not pictured. Sub Zero's still needs to be made).
