Ok guys, it's time for me to take the next step. I've run my fiber optics and I want to wire the LEDs. I know nothing about circuits or wiring but did a bit of internet research. I've purchased LEDS of various forward voltages and currents as well as some 12v light strips and a 9v chaser circuit for the landing bays. I've drawn up a circuit diagram and need some approval/suggestions. Can any of you electrically inclined modelers help me? Can I wire LEDs of different ratings in parallel?

I am concerned about the top segment - 30 ma seems high for standard LED's so I suggest you double check those.

The forth and fifth segment for the 12v strips does not need a resistor.

For the sixth segment (landing chaser), you really need a BUCK dc/dc converter. Just think of it as a black box that replaces the 150 ohm resistor for the 9v chaser with a step down regulator (since the current draw from the chaser is not know and can vary, a simple resistor is not the best solution. Another option is a simple 9v regulator, but that requires more work on your part (needs a few capacitors to work and be stable.(example: http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/5790/stabilizatorrc7.gif)

Thanks for the input.

I did double check. You were right, I was reading reverse current. Cf is 20mA. I will change the resistors in the first segment to 120 ohm.

The chaser I bought came with a 9v battery adapter. I may just remove it from this circuit and run in off a battery separately.

Otherwise, does it look OK?

New orders will start later this week, I promise. Just did not want to take any $ until i was really ready to go again on this. Holidays were busier than expected and last week was like well below zero overnight and not much better during the day. Should be back on track in a couple of days.

Sweet! As long as I'm on the list..I'm happy! :) Just poke me when its time!

Yep, I For Sure know about running things by the better half before any ordering can be done for me. As for my model I'm kinda in limbo mode Ive got the landing bays completed, just need to LED them which I will run 3mm in these as Oliver has done. I just need printer ink so I can print the pics that go in the ends of them, wife has me on hold on this I also need to get my fiber optics which is in my watch list on ebay ready to order I have all my LED's that's needed the 5mm for the engines and one 3mm red LED that this takes Ive done alot of work on the ship this weekend and there is still alot of small stuff I can do this coming weekend, also be putting the LED's in this area too got me a power pack I'm going to be using for the power and by all test done everything will work fine with this set up,By the way Robiwon Wonderfest is getting closer better start saving.............hehehehe... Thanks......Jim

Hey Mike..... I had messaged you quite a while back about a missing dome (at least) on the kit I bought..... I stopped writing you when you said there would be upgrade parts coming in the new year along with perhaps a basic build instruction. Will this happen b4 you take new orders?

Thanks,
Wolf

So, what's the Salzo kit going to set me back? Ballpark.

You can PM me for a quote.
thanks
mike

They will be going in in waves in conjunction with the new orders. For everything that is in the upgrade it i have gang molds for. For example I have a dome mold with 4 domes in it, so for every new kit i cast up i have 3 domes for the upgrade kits, and i can also just run off 4 domes at a time for upgrades if i can squeeze it it. In fact i have big bag of stuff i have already been casting any time i have a free minute.
thanks

Hello Mike,

since i have bought those upgrade parts (bridge, domes, nose) via shapeways already,
there is no need to do them for "my" Galactica.

Thanks in advance and greetings from Germany,
Jan

Hi Mike,

I bought some upgrade parts from shapeways too, some I scratched.

No need, to send me replacement parts.

Cheers, and keep up your good work, Hermann

Thanks for that speedy reply Mike.... I haven't started the BSG build yet or purchased any 3rd party components, so I'll happily take any upgrade parts as they become available.

Sounds like you've thought this through and came up with a great plan to kill two birds with one stone!!! Have you done this b4? (wink)

Just an FYI that i should be starting a new instructions thread for this sometime next week. I know a lot of people have been looking for something like that and i want to start a new separate thread for discussion of assembly only. I know this thread has gotten long so a dedicated thread seems to be in order.
thanks

Sweet... I'm trying not to read all the old how-to's until I get my very own Battlestar. Don't want to get ahead of myself :)

I'm really looking forward to reading through the instruction thread. This is an amazing model.
