I finally finished the 1/24 A-Wing last weekend, so here are the pics:

A very nice kit created by Alfred Wong and made available by Robert Burns. Very clever thought out structure with a minimum of seams to sand down.
No lights this time.

It´s just a shame that the clear canopy isn´t exactly clear...

Compared to the old AMT kit this one is really big (29cm, about double the size) and much more true to the original model.

I tried to stay as close as possible to the original colors, damage and weathering.

Hope you like it...

Very nice build Tobias, I got my A wing a few weeks back and the canopy is a little worrying, I'm not keen on vac form canopies but the kit looks great apart from that.
Did you have any trouble with cutting the canopy out ?

Cheers

Phil

My canopy was a nightmare to cut, I ruined 2 out of 3 canopies. Mine is pretty clear, I asked him to cast one a little thicker and he did. It came out pretty clear.

I cut the canopy pretty carefully, sanding the last bit down. Still there are a few minor gaps, but visible only when you come really close. I wouldn't mind a clearer canopy - didn't think it was possible to get more then one. If anyone has a spare one that's clearer, I'd be very interested.

Great build :thumbsup

For those that haven't built theirs yet, you may be able to do something with the canopy. Try dipping it in Future Floor Wax. At best, it'll clear up the canopy, at worst, you'll be at the same place you are now.

As for filling small gaps between the canopy and the body, try some slightly thinned white glue (like elmer's). It dries clear in small amounts.

Try sanding the canopy with very fine sand paper and then polishing compound followed by a dip in future. It should end up crystal clear.

Looks really nice. You captured it beautifully. I've been waiting for this kit to resurface. I heard Mr. Burns sold the master... anyone know when the opportunity for another run of the 1/24th scale will occur? Just curious.

Once again, great job on your A-wing!!

Hi, my kit came through in march/april I think, not long ago so I'm pretty sure Robert still has the mould.
When I ordered he said he does a run of about 25 kits and luckily I was number 2 on his second run so only had to wait a couple of months. If you're lower on his signup list then it'll be longer.

If you email him he'll let you know where he's at.

Hope that helps

Phil

I emailed Robert and he said that someone purchased the molds and is planning on releasing them again towards the end of the year.

hi i talked to the guy who has the molds and he is working on the molds and the kit will be available on ssm,He said it will be well broadcasted on the starship modeler.
How much was the kit? This will go good with my 1/24 scale x-wing.

thanks mark

That´s good news, thanks! I was really keen on this kit but couldn´t afford it at the time of its first release due to other important kits. I won´t miss it this time! :)

Edit: Forgot to say, that´s a beautiful build-up, Tobias! You really did the kit justice.

What was the cost of the kit if i may ask?

I think it was $200? I seem to remember this as I was talking to Robert since I really wanted one, and he was thinking of having a 1/24 B-Wing mastered next. I guess he cancelled his plan though. What a pity...

200 Dollar was the price tag indeed - if I remember correctly. Pretty hefty for such a rather small kit, but still worth it.

Maybe the kit will be cheaper when sold through SSM. You usually get much bigger kits for that kinda money there, maybe they can produce cheaper. At least I hope so! :lol
