1/12 Black Series First Order Tie Fighter Conversion!

That's sucks. I had my suspicions regarding the wings looking a little short early. It's not much, but it is enough to be annoying

Yes I suppose 4" of plastic x however many produced is a saving, but I actually think they simply got it wrong!

Ok peeps, base of the correct scale wings are complete and ready for the solar panel detailing and further tidying up prior to the secondary blast of primer. This has so far been mind boggling difficult to do but I now have the correct scale panels that are the correct thickness and warp free!!

I feel like I have been sanding and joining up styrene for a lifetime to get the joints nice and smooth and and the borders consistent with the scale. Unless you have the patience of a saint, some maths skills and be prepared to ruin your existing panels then I would not recommend lol!!

It was a lot of hard work for sure, but I think it paid off. The odd proportions were keeping it looking more like a toy with the shorter panels. It looks like a studio model now

Thanks guys

It looks good in the flesh and it's never going to be studio accurate but I'm working on the solar panel detail......

Guys, have any of you had any experience with the colours for this bird? What shade of black and red would you recommend??

First of all your ship looks fantastic! the only experience i have on this vehicle is that ive painted the bandai 1/72 scale, it does come in molded color and could be built and left unpainted however i painted mine in satin black for the main hull, matt finish would be way off in my opinion the wing panels i painted a very light shade of grey, a custom mix of humbrol white and a dark grey added as for the red i'd go with any blood red with a black wash on it's recesses/ nooks and cranny's, you may not want to go the humbrol route they come in very small tins for brushing and air brushing, it would take a whole day to airbrush your beast.
Let me know if it's ok to post a picture of mine here, if you'd like, it may give you some ideas

Those transformations are the bomb mate! Looking very good...and yes, the wings are looking spiffy.

Brilliant work there! But seeing how much effort it takes to get those Side panels right (Had a good share of that doing my Hasbro Tie Mod) I think I will push my build a bit forward :)

You did a great job on this!! Any reason you left the glass in? I know all the ilm models they never put glass in them.

Hi

I have had to do the panels again!! This time in styrene. The issue was the styrofoam warped so is not a viable option.

I have eave about finished them now, ready for the panel detail but it has been a challenge to say the least. As for the glass, well it's a personal preference rather than being studio accurate. I have a spare screen so I could do one without glass. The top has no glass so you can view the inside when the lights are on!

i hope to have the panels finished in a fortnight and then on to painting.

Right, managed to get the bare panels primed in preparation for the panel detail. I am please at how straight they are and the extended aspects are pretty seamless. Obviously I can see defects now primed but it's looking like a large scale model now!!!

The whole thing is now rather heavy but will make a unique piece once painted up and the switches installed for the lighting
