1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Beautiful work! I'm loving the attention to detail, but now I can't decide whether or not I want to follow in your footsteps and build a Millennium Falcon control console or an X-Wing one. Also, how far off do you think you are from finishing?

Thanks so much! We're trying as hard as we can to make her as screen accurate as possible. Knowing we'll never get it 100%, we're still having fun! As far as my finishing the cockpit, I think we're just a few months away... But we're YEARS away from finishing the full scale MF. GRRRR

Now, onto more important things... hmmmmmm.... Your own console or a XWing cockpit? That's a tough one... I say XWing! I don't think anybody has done a full scale replica of the XWing cockpit and it can be easily contained as you can build as much or as little of the exterior around the cockpit. Also... if you don't... I will!

I've done a little thinking, and I've decided to do the X-Wing. The main reason I was considering the Millennium Falcon is because I like the general T-shape of the console, but overall I prefer the enclosed U-shape of the X-Wing fighter. Plus, there isn't much reference detail, so I can really go to town with this and add my own touches! Anyway, not being one to flood another's thread, I'll be off. (Don't worry, I'll still be watching your updates with hues of envy filling my eyes!)

Thank you, sir! I'm going to a HUGE push tonight to get some of these 1" tiles adhered. OH!!! GREAT NEWS... I scored an actual Mitchell Matte Box (nav screen). Should be here in a few days!

Hi Gang,

I started adhering all the 1" tiles!

Started laying everything out - When I have to adhere a LONG line of tiles I try to adhere one at each end then use a ruler to act as a guide. The ruler simply butts up against the tiles keeping a straight line

Used a backlight to help center the tile

Finished!

Moving on...

I had to remove the pin stripe. I'll replace with the thinner stripe later

Thank you, Sir! Adhering them to the panels went by really quick. Had I not run out of glue (which I got more of this morning) I could have been much further along! I'm hoping to have most done by this evening. We're also looking at designing a new platform. Whew...

Nice and clean lines...

Everything was going great

When I got to this panel the super glue (same bottle I was using) wasn't adhering AT ALL. All the tiles were shifting as they dried. VERY FRUSTRATING. But I think I was able to keep most of them in place. The LEDs will prove how off they are once installed. GRRRR

Still greeblies to add to these panels as well

Another early morning update! Not a whole lot of pics... Sorry

It was a 3 prong attack last night... While I worked on getting more 1" tiles adhered and greeblies attached, Jessie was busy laser cutting more parts and Philip was working the dimensions and cut paths for the new center console!

This panel is now finished

Check off this panel as done!

I had a problem with the glue shifting AGAIN... UGH...

Trying to back light and check for errors

DONE!
