1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

I'm digging the square dish. ...and it's kind of brilliant marketing at work. If you have a model or toy of the OT falcon, surely you must now buy the slightly modified ST falcon. -- "ca-ching"!! :)

I'm not sold on the square dish just yet... I understand that after 30 years you have to upgrade and make "special modifications". I'm sure they went through several different designs. It's very reminiscent of the Blockade Runner dish. Again, I DIG that quad. Me thinks me have to make a new one! ;)

I was reading through SW7News... sure is nice to see all those full scale props! PLEASE DONT THROW THEM AWAY! Auction them off! :)

Well, crap. Now we have to redesign the quad. Again. (kidding)

As for the dish, well, she is an older model ship, if you think about it. At least 20 years old as of ANH (based on the chi shot in the third kid's film). That would put her at 55 years old? Show me a car dealership that stocks original parts for a 50 year old car.

But that quad does look nice and balanced, though. Unlike ours

Hey Gang,

I'm a dummy... OperaScot JUST made a VERY VALID point... The last time we actually saw the Falcon she was without a radar dish. It had to be replaced. :)

Hi Gang,

Well... I've been chatting with Starkiller about the front nose section. Two things, the nose panels have to be cut/mod'd along with new ones built to achieve the proper conical shape - we've known this since the beginning. All that is fine... what bothers me is the fact that I jumped the gun and pin striped the very panels that have to be mod'd. So... I "get" to remove all the pin striping. These panels didnt take very long to pin stripe so I'm not too concerned...

Someone over at theforce.net message boards posted a mock-up of what the falcon might ... MIGHT ... look like with the new dish. Will take a little getting used to...

You guys SURE that's not just a panel that's currently raised up during assembly? It seems to be the same trapazoid shape as the angled roof panels above the ramp and escape hatch.

Pretty sure... It lines up with one of the overhead views of the dish being in place, and it was clear in that shot that something seemed different. I also seem to recall reading a rumor back a ways more or less stating the dish was more square-shaped now.

well, Lando did knock the dish off in ROTJ

Hi Gang,

Small update... just ordered more acrylic and should have ALL the 1" blue, white and yellow tiles ready to adhere VER SOON! I'm hoping by the weekend. We're pushing to attend two shows: GMX show and NerdCon (local show in AL) that are on the same day in late Oct. Fingers crossed!!!

just a quick note that the Haynes Millennium Falcon Owners workshop manual book has a small snippet about a square radar dish. On page 100 it basically state that the square dish is a standard design on all YT model freighters and Han Solo's round dish was an upgrade. May shed a little light on where the square dish fits in.

More to Follow!

I can understand the choice to go with a different shape dish on top, both from an in-store perspective (it's been 30 years, and Han is a self confessed car guy), and from a designer perspective

(in production meeting) person A: We need to put the sensor dish back on the Falcon

Person B: It's already back on the 5 foot model.

Person A: Good

Annoying intern: But the round one was torn clear by Lando. If you put it back, the fans and all those crazy folks who disect photos will say that you forgot that. You need to change it somehow.

Person B (rolls eyes) But then there will be endless debate, a flurry of blog posts about whether they like it or not, about how this is THEIR ship...

Person A: It's going to happen either way. Some guy may even describe a meeting about it

Oops. Sorry

Person B: Who let this intern into the production meeting? And where is my cup of coffee and danish?

Person A: That was your danish? (he says with a mouth full of food)

Person B: Intern!! (snaps his fingers) Snap the radar dish off the Blockade Runner and give it to the model guys!
