1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Speaking of rework, shouldn't the lower PVC joint be in the second opening (the more squarish one) from the bottom on the back plate of the nav chair?

Hi HiPo,

You are ABSOLUTELY correct... Unfortunately the second square opening is too small for the PVC to fit - it's off 1/16 of an in. We were going to force it, but we decided to just raise the detail to the larger opening. I know... it's not screen accurate but we're hoping everything comes together and won't be that noticable...

Sorry events have taken a turn towards the frustrating. When you look back over the incredible amount of road you've covered this should be no more than a pothole. Go enjoy the Spring weather before it turns hot on you (again) ;)

Thanks... it's been one of those weeks... It happens. Just have to regroup, shake it off and move forward... :)

Hi Gang,

WHEW... The Steamfest show at Lowe Mill here in Huntsville was a HUGE success! However... there was more battle damage done to the poor console than all other shows combined. And most of it was done by yours truly... But all is not lost...

We began working the seat pad for the nav chairs

Two layers of 1/2" poplar. These will be sanded smooth and greeblied to match - have faith :)

Breaking down and getting ready for Steamfest

I had to quickly add filler to the console riser. The created extra space between peoples laps and the horizontal instrument panels

20140410_194921_zpsd106806d.jpg

I then finished off the front of the console platform - I'm not fond of the black stain. I'm going to cover it with something else... Or, look into having the platforms (all of them) fab'd from aluminum

BATTLE DAMAGE
While pulling the console out of the car, the Formica caught the carpet and snapped the edge (this was my fault - I have been meaning to fix that area for over a year)

Some super blue & Bondo... good to go
20140412_194955_zps07462a9a.jpg

I then accidently snapped this piece... We're going to fabricate these levers out of aluminum
20140412_195453_zps337dfd03.jpg

And last but not least... the Speakers popped and many of the soldering connections have come loose - that's going to be expected over time. We're not sure what happened to the speakers but we'll figure it out.

The Good News! GREEBLIES!

These rotary actuators arrived! These will dress the sides of the nav chairs

Darth Chromer - THANK YOU, MY FRIEND! What else can I say... :)

In all... not a bad few weeks... We'll sort out the battle damage and get the wiring fixed. Steamfest was a blast and thanks to Mike, Jessie, Philip, Tony, Doug and Rob for all your help and continued support!

More to Follow! :)

So are the metal throttles going in? or are those being saved for the real FSF?

Hi Y,

We're saving those babies for Console Ver 2.0. We're still working the 2 files to be cut on the CNC and laser cutter. Darth Chromer did a fantastic job! I don't want to take them out of the package!

Beautiful pieces there:cool Loving where it's going to be place! Glad Steamfest was such a blast.

Hey J,

YES THEY ARE! I was sitting at the lab waiting for the CNC just staring at them... I should put a tiny spotlight in the cockpit just to shine down on those levers - they are a thing of beauty!

Hi Gang,

Steamfest has come and gone and it was a HUGE hit. I'm not sure what the total attendance was but early estimates are between 3-5K people showed up. It was only a 4 hour event (12-4) but we were able to make a few more contacts, meet some wonderful folks and make a few new friends. It was a great time! The best part came when tear down took only a few minutes... not the several hours it takes to haul the entire cockpit. :)

Now... with that said... we came to MANY realizations. Some new... some now confirmed. For all intent and purposes (as MOST of you know), this is NOT a toy or a ride at Disneyland where small kids can YANK the heck out of levers, smash buttons and try to climb on, over and jump on top of. This is not a toy. Many people are just unaware of the time and effort we all put into these props, costumes, models, etc... It was a struggle having to do interviews, talk shop and block little hands all at the same time.

In summary, Jessie is designing a sign that will say "...Han Solo says You Must Be This Tall to Pilot the Millennium Falcon..."

:)

Hey SK, Congrats on another great show! I was glad to make a small contribution to the cause. I love watching the build. I'm glad you have some seriously talented people helping you out there. I hope the throttle levers last a while as they are unfortunately resin and can snap if mishandled. I wish I had the equipment to machine them out of aluminum for you. I'll see about tackling the Radar scope for you next. :)

Every time I see you bring the quad, cockpit and/or console to a festival or show I envy the people showing up. Too bad I'm almost half around the world, if not I would easily come by to have a look at the build irl! Another great show, love it.
Not a bad idea with the sign, it would definitely make the watch easier and hopefully reduce the risk of damage. :)

From the pictures I assumed that the levers were made out of metal (the ones in the plastic), and when you say they are made out of resin it's even more impressive. Nice job Darthchromer!

Hi Gang,

The CNC gods were smiling upon me last night... And of course with a little help from Mike...

Hey DC,

Thank you again for the amazing greeblies! Now I've gotta get started on that door! :) I'm very fortunate to have surrounded myself with such talent. We're like a well oiled machine - how lucky is that? Speaking of radar scope... we're going to create something similar/temporary to what we did for the Nav Screen. But we'll all be anxiously awaiting for what you have planned....

Thanks again, my friend!

Seriously, I love that shot!

Hi H,

I got the skunk eye after that pic... ;)

Hi Kev,

I hope everybody gets a chance to visit one day. It would be great to have everybody all at once and have a HUGE party!

Yeah... The Steamfest show proved to be too much for the little ol console. I can only imagine what the actual cockpit would have looked like. I think the "You Must Be This Tall" sign is a very polite way of saying "No". We have to draw the line somewhere...

Believe it or not, those levers are resin copies. DC did an amazing job. I still haven't taken them out of the wrapping yet! lol

Fantastic work!

Hi A,

Thanks so much! Compliments to the entire team!

What are your plans for the barrel nozzles on the quad?

Hi L,

Starkiller had a 3D print made last year which is sitting in my back room. I've been meaning to have the part vaccuformed but there just wasn't any in town that I knew of. Luckily, Daniel is building one at one of the local Maker's Club here in HSV. So... we should have some barrel nozzles very soon! :)

Ok, first I was about to say battle damage is something good in the Star Wars Universe, then in a flash I figured out how many hours took to me to read this thread and subsequently calculated how many days of fatigue took to You guys to go through the whole thing!! I would have killed if it happened to me. The fear that I suffer every single Birthday that friends of mine bring little kids free to run and grab things from my collection (anime robot model one is Humongous and placed at sticky little hands reach!!), make me understand perfectly what You felt there!!:D Believe me I totally love kids!! But its the parents that don't moderate them!!:cry

You deserve every single nanosecond of fame there!!!!:thumbsup You rock!!

Regards,

Alberto
