Hi Gang,

LOTS OF GOOD STUFF! Just spent the last few minutes drilling the holes necessary for the back lit 3mm tiles. I am THRILLED with the results so far! :)

I drilled all the 3/4" holes

These are sample tiles I received from TAP Plastics last year. With my access to MGL, I'll be cutting all the tiles with the Laser Cutter!

Hi Gang,

Decided to remove this minor irritant

After a few passes with the chisel... maybe a few more to go

Added the first layer of paint to the upper panel. I'm going to add another layer, let dry, mark out the pin stripes lines and then cut all the new holes before adding the final layer(s) of paint

Now We're Movin'

Results look great!!... I might be a little too late to the party with this idea, but here's something that may or may not be of interest to you going forward... I did a little looking on the Internet this morning for oscillating tools and "Oscillating Precision Plunge Cut Blade"s for those tools for potentially cutting small square holes to backlight the square buttons, rather than using a large drill bit. I guess there are a number of blade sizes available. It may not be worth it though, as you would probably need to buy it and try it in order to even know if it will work for what you're doing. The holes made would also have to be slightly smaller than the buttons, to allow room for you to glue the buttons on along the edges. Anyway... Might not be worth it, but here's a video showing you what I mean... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kphHckuHPE8

Hi Gang,

The first of the rotary switches are now installed!

Still need to do some touching up around the posts

Used a piece of Balsa wood so all the knobs would be at the same level

The new matte box took about 2 hours to cut. A smaller bit would double the time - but I'm going to give that a shot

LOTS MORE to Come This Week!

Why you doing a new matter box?

Hi C,

There will be 3 consoles and 2 cockpits when all is said and done. The one I'm working now is for the standalone console, then we are recreating the console for the existing cockpit (which will travel to different Cons, shows, etc) then we're creating a final version for the final MF in Tennessee. Lots of work to do!

It would be great if you can make the pots vary the speed of flashing!

Loving the lights, that is definitely nice.. For a square hole this is what I was going to do, seen it done years ago..

Square Punch Demonstration by Darrell Peart - YouTube

We're got plenty of surprises coming... :)

Ah I see, so you are having to do this three times????? My gods you must be brave or nuts, I am not sure there is much difference,

Sooo much goodness in a day's posting, and them backlit tiles are fab!

Hey W,

It was a great day! Felt really good to be back at it... The CNC and Laser cutter have just taken this project to the next level. We're placing a special order for acrylic. I'm hoping to have all those 1" tiles cut VERY SOON!

So much awesomeness!! When you start on a Star destroyer bridge I'm in :D

I agree! It was a great day! Star Destroyer Bridge? HMMMMMMM.... ;)

I think a combination of Brave and Nuts pretty much sums it up... :)

I was just to say the same thing, but someone beat me to the punch:D I think "insane" is more like it...but I love it to bits! Great stuff with that laser cutter and looking forward to see the beginning of a new dawn for the 1:1 MF cockpit:cool

Hi Gang,

Work continues on the upper panel...

I drew in the pin stripe and marked the holes for the 1" tiles

Looking good, as always.

Are you going to match the random greeblies across all three versions, and have the same switches and knobs on each?

Loving this as always.
I don't want to be a downer but the signatures would really bother me if I were to ever see this in person.
I would want to fully imagine myself in the Falcon cockpit and those signatures will surely be joined by more in the future until it's like the bathroom wall at a bar.
I guess it's just a matter of taste between different types of fans. For me nothing is worse than seeing a beautiful replica of a Vader or Boba Fett helmet with a huge signature of a celebrity across it.
Is there any chance you could have them somewhere else? Like on the outside maybe?

Hi SR,

Whether fortunate or unfortunate... the MF cockpit varied from movie to movie - the biggest change being ANH to ESB. So, I'm going to TRY to match certain greeblies but I'm not beholden to an exact match. But that's also dependent upon what I can find on the internet.

I would really like to find more of these switches but with a longer post.

As you can see... I have a few options. :)
