Hi Gang,
After getting some advice from some wonderful folks at the fabric store I plowed ahead and got to work on the transition padding...
Trusty iron, board and goodies I purchased...
Since I can't sew... there is this double sided adhesive activated by the heat of the iron...
Fold it over and create a "sandwich" and you have instant piping
All done - trim the edges
I had some left over Velcro. Spent a couple minutes sticking the Velcro in place and... Bingo
There is ALOT of overhang / extra on purpose. I'll trim up once I get an exact measurement
My helper and best friend - Cisco
I'm considering dying the padding but that can wait...
One weekend left and of course all the days in between... I have to create and stain the ESB extension platform. Paint the ESB panels. TRY to finish the window channels to include paint... WHEW... Lots to do...

You could spray paint the fabric. Would be quick and easy and would give it some stiffness which might make it easier to keep in place.

Hi Gang,
A quick morning update... Added more leaky hydraulic fluid to the quad arms. This afternoon I will mask off and spray a high gloss to seal everything and then add a few more layers...
You can now really see the difference between the color of the quad and the chrome arms - I like it
EWE... that's a bad leak!

I'm going to try to stay close to the original - #2 - but I also like #3. I'm definately going to dye the fabric once I trim to final shape.

I need to keep the fabric as is. Unlike the original prop, I have to be able to take everything apart and put back together. The original was all bolted / screwed together. So, just like everything else, I need to keep it flexible, removable, etc

She really is... She's a rescue. I've had her for many many years. She's been a constant companion and my best buddy! I can't forget Tucker - he's the goofball of the bunch.

Don't know if this helps, the red handle switch (silver base part) measures 77mm long by 27mm wide and sits 5mm in from the edge of the raised triagle at the top.
I have an early 70's version with a 'roller' lever but the silver base part is the same type and size.

I was thinking it could make for some quick paneling and even to wrap around as a skin for the hull? Poly is a pretty versitile material. ^___^

Well... I had about 35 min to spare before heading to work... The transition padding has been trimmed and fits perfectly!
Other than Velcro... does anybody have any suggestions for a better adhesive? But it must be removable...

Yes... To me, it feels like I'm under a Millennium Falcon-sized diaper. ...but that will change with some paint.

Well, I got another part cooking for the Falcon. Throttle levers. I say, bring that bad boy over to my shop and we'll get it flying in no time :thumbsup
My lathe has see better days and I really had to nurse this part. A CNC machine would have knocked this out in a few minutes. I will be casting this master in resin, no way I am making three more on this lathe :facepalml

Well... Work continues on the canopy. I'm "hoping" to have the window channels done before the weekend so I can hit the canopy details and ESB panels then jump to the painting and pinstripes before GMX. Whew... Why do I do this to myself?
Spent the late afternoon working on the window channels
This area is done - I really want to add the plexi to see what it looks like
Done - minus window arch (the arch has to come off in order for me to add the channels
Done - minus arch
Upper Chewie done - minus arch
Han upper done - minus arch
Remember all those strips of wood I had in the tub? Those are the beam/panel details
These will all be filled and sanded to evenly blend with the beams - I can't wait to add paint!
You can really see how much detail it adds!

I was hoping the silver I sprayed on the quad arms would pop a little more... maybe in more light and when the quad is all put together...
