1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Cool, I'm glad you can use the mini mixer, it'll be tagging along with your greeblies then :thumbsup

Looking forward to recieving the toggles. The resin for those arrived this morning, I hope you need a lot of them :lol

I'm sure you mentioned they were all the same size in your email. I can hold on to some of the black if you wanted bigger/smaller ones made later or something. Or just use all of it now and get more if you decide to go that way, I'll leave that one to you ;)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Nice build am watching with interest! Just had an odd thought; have you considered putting the console on wheels? Might make it easier to move around and work on.....

Hi oota,

I added wheels to the base a while back - it made all the difference in the world. Made it MUCH easier to move :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

And I bet it's getting heavy as well.

OH YES! I haven't actually picked it up with the cannons attached but I can only imagine how painful it's going to be.

I'm going to try to design/create a portable mount so I can start putting everything together. Not sure how... but I'll figure out something LOL

I need to really reinforce the PVC - not sure how... I may get some different connectors... I'm also planning to turn the base into the MF Gunner Window - just for show. :)

THATS IT! I'M DONE... TOO HOT!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Phenomenal work mate. Your speed puts me to shame. This thread has been a real inspiration to subscribe to.

Maybe steel plumbing pipes instead of PVC for the mounts??????

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

You could pour quick cement into the bottom half of the assembled stand. It'll make it more bottom-heavy and add rigidity (it's the same thing you do when you install a basketball hoop on a stand). Course, it will make the stand pretty heavy -better add wheels ;)

Hi D,

Before I purchased the PVC I was looking at steel piping. And while this makes ALL the sense in the world... it was too expensive and VERY heavy - especially given the thickness "required" to achieve the proper look.

I then thought about putting the steel pipe inside the PVC but that would more than double my costs...

So, I guess I need to find an equal balance. And this is just for display purposes so I don't really need to go ALL out.

Thanks for the advice! :)

Hi KC,

I have wheels waiting to be installed on the bottom of the wood support I created. :) The cement idea is a really good one except for weight. I could try lining the insides of the pipes with fiberglass but I don't think I could cover every critical point.

I wonder if there's a readily available spray I could use that hardens? But I might consider the cement - hmmmmmm

Anybody?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi G

How about pouring in some roto casting resin with some fine sand in it or something?

The resin alone will give it a good bit of extra strength, a bit of waight and sets in about 3 minutes.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

CONSOLE UPDATES!

Finally cut the hole for the button panel

Cut the starter hole
IMAG0240.jpg

Then taped off everything to include saw base so I wouldnt scratch the panel surface
IMAG0241.jpg

IMAG0242.jpg

A little more trimming up... this part took the longest
IMAG0245.jpg

Presto!
IMAG0247.jpg

IMAG0250.jpg

Now... someone come over and wire it up! I have beer and cookies? :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I added a bulkier elbow pipe, which looks better, but the fitting is too WAY loose. I can't position the quad into its final resting place without it "see saw"ing.

Bulkier Elbow
IMAG0251.jpg

IMAG0252.jpg

It sat in the position for only a minute before I caught it in time! Imagine how much more weight will be added with the back panels and the 4 cannons?
IMAG0253.jpg

IMAG0254.jpg

I'm going to cut the vertical PVC pipes almost in half to reduce height and help give a little more strength to the overall support
IMAG0255.jpg

I'll have to think this one through... Once it's finished I'll add the traditional greeblies, small pipes, and wires, etc... :)

Hey C,

I've never even heard of "Roto Casting Resin". I'll look it up!

Thanks :)
