1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I can't believe I didnt ask this earlier... Does anybody have detailed pics of the studio scale model's quad cannons? These would really help me with the build.

Thanks

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

that's one of the only pictures I've seen of the complete model. You can find some great close ups on sites that have reference pics of the 5' falcon, in high detail, but there are a few parts that have been knocked off along the years. Still, let me see if I can find some of those references.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Wow this looks great, and the scale of the build is amazing. I can't wait for more updates!

Hi Stage,

Thanks for the kind words. You'd be VERY surpirsed how much bigger it is in person... The console takes up almost an entire room! :) But in a good way of course.

Stay Tuned!

Man, that's the best use of an entire room.
...I wish I had a Millenium Falcon in my house... Dude...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Sorry Gang,

No updates tonight. Too much going on... :)

Aw, man! I JUST went to a Star Wars exhibit this past weekend and I managed to snap some photos of ILM's screen-used Millennium Falcon model. But, unfortunately, I didn't get any clear photos of the cannons. A few of my pics show parts of them, but I don't have any direct photos of that particular part of the ship. Bummer.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Faust! Great to see your fabulous build again! You still da man.

SK, I am enjoying the heck out of your builds.

Fuzzal, those are nice renders you found, though a “niceified” look of the upper cannon on the “5-footer” as it exists today…more or less.

SK, since your build shows it, and Fuzzal, since your found renders also shows it, I would mention that the gaps in the top and bottom of the aft sections aren’t really there (IF SK is striving for filming model accuracy). Sure, the gap seen in the “5-footer’s” upper cannon top aft section currently exists, but it is an artifact of destructive modification made to the cannon after ANH to add wiring and lights. It seems the modelers patched the top gap up rather hastily with a flat rectangular bridging piece, failing to cover it up all the way to the rear. I have yet to see a post-ANH “5-footer” pic that shows the bottom aft section. But from what I can see, I suspect it was necessary to remove that bottom aft section so the wires could pass up from the turret. Interestingly, you have recreated the originally horizontally split aft section to be a smaller version of itself within the gapped/vertically split section. Hey, it looks cool, but as I said, I don’t know what your accuracy goal is, and you DID ask for references.

Speaking of references, other than potential pix I have never seen, perhaps one of the best references is a preliminary sketch from ILM drawn to show the cannon from behind at sort of a “3/4” view. One or more of the various publications has this sketch in it, though it/they escapes me at the moment…the original Chronicles book, maybe?

SK, again, I don’t know what kind of accuracy you’re going for compared to the filming models, but I would also mention that the section just ahead of the aft section has a bit much length to it. On the “5-footer”, it is just a thick plate. Of course changing it would throw off aft section proportions. Clearly, as you have built it, anyone would definitely know what it is, and I still think it looks cool. Keep up the good work.

Hi Rymo,

No worries at all but I appreciate the thought. I've read through your thread and it never even dawned on me... It was just one of those brain fart moments... Age does that to ya! :)

Hi M,

Thanks for the kind words. :)

The overall plan is to create a sort of hybrid prop based more on the studio model than the screen used prop only because there are FAR more reference photos of the model and virtually ZERO of the prop (minus screen captures). So I just plan on "winging it" and hope for the best

The 3/4 rear view of the cannons you're refering to is the sketch done by Joe Johnston and its in the ESB Sketch Book - the blue book with a ATAT on the cover. I love that pic!!! :)

Again, thank for the kind words and thank you for the input. Any and all information is useful. I was considering building two versions - the studio model version and one that best represented the prop... but I dont think having two different cannons on the full scale MF would look good. :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Take a look at the base of the quad-lasers just below the shaft. Aren't those more Rolls Royce Derwent Engine Parts/IG-88 heads? Man, those things are everywhere. I recently noticed the cowling for them laying around the Lars Homestead. How many of those did they have?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

WHOA! I've never seen that pic before let alone thought one would even exist! That's amazing! The details these guys put into the props is mind blowing.

I think you're correct - those are RR parts. Poor IG88... No wonder he was so angry and became a BH. He got no respect. ;)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

After looking at those pics, I'm definately going to make the front PVC pipes thinner.

Does anybody have ANY idea what they used for the tips of the cannons?
