This panel was pretty banged up... that might have been the reason? I dunno... lol

Holes are predrilled so now I can remove these pin stripes... I also added a few extra holes to help differentiate this panel from its sister

Hi Gang,

While at Phoenix Festival I met some amazing folks! Two of these amazing people were Michael LoBianco and Josh Mason. Both are huge SW fans and had a booth setup at the show to help promote their recently finished fan film. They were nice enough to give me a copy. Scott immediately grabbed it out of my hands and it wasn't until we got home I was able to enjoy it. Lots of fun to watch. Great job! :)

Before the show ended, the three of us chatted several times and without getting into too much detail, we will be collaborating together - they will be using the cockpit for their next fan film! I couldn't be more excited! They live only a few hours away so travel wont be too much of an issue - it was decided that they would be coming to HSV :) Also, and much to my surprise, Michael builds/sells his own props! One of them being a Han Solo style belt and DL-44 (I think I have that right). He had it there at the show and it was the first I had ever held a DL-44. It was COOL!

These guys were really nice! As a result of our chatting... Michael was kind enough to send me a package in the mail... WHOA...

I was stunned! This was the biggest surprise I've had in a LONG time (Thanks again Michael) I couldn't believe it! My very first prop... and the coolest gun in the SW universe! The build quality is AMAZING! He hand crafted every aspect of the belt and even used original parts/greeblies. He really takes his time with these props! As you can see... they even have all the greeblies. And it fit! lol

And yes... I did pretend to be Han Solo... ;)

Hi Gang,

UPDATES!

OK... for anybody who has had the privilege of using a laser cutter knows how awesome it is! And those same people know that designing something to be cut on the laser printer can be both fun and horribly tedious! I spent a good portion of last week making rough sketches of a new illuminated button panel that will be mounted on the lower back and side walls. There are approx. 6-8 of these panels in various configurations. I wanted to knock these out of the way before time ran out. The basic design has been haunting for a while... ;)

Without getting into too much detail... I wanted to create a tab box. Small tabs allow you to connect all the parts together without the use of any adhesive (I will use adhesive when the time comes). :)

We first take our sketches and begin to create a 2D drawing
20140622_113732_zps160c0072.jpg

Then it gets more complicated. You have to make sure ALL the tabs are aligned both vertically and horizontally

The round holes are for the 5mm LEDs

WHEW!

THEN... if you're lucky everything you just created will print/cut the way its supposed to...

Very very cool all round! Of course you did the Han Solo thang lol.

Thank you, Sir. Welll yeah... I had to do the Han Solo thing. It would have been stupid not to. ;)

Look like an R2 in progress.... ;)

Not just 1... ;)

Lots of work on those panels, and for the better. Glad to see that you can play Han Solo with that cool holster/blaster:cool

To reduce cost, I used Birch instead of the acrylic for the sides you wont see.

Hey Jo,

OH YEAH... The panels are def getting the makeover they deserve. I wish we could utilize the vinyl cutter for the pin stripes but we don't think it would work especially with all the changes... I did pretend to be Han Solo... It was fun ;)

Hey SofaKing, you do know there's a vacancy there, maybe you should get in touch with Disney, LOL!

I don't know... I'm so much better looking than Harrison Ford, I wouldn't want to flip the Universe upside down ;)

Hi Gang,

Didn't want you guys to think I had skipped town... I've been working on getting a lot of the 2D files out of the way and ready for both the laser cutter and CNC. I'll be getting an early start tomorrow so I hope to have a few things well underway. :)
