1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

LOVE the homemade Segway!! ...and great pics as usual! Love following your progress and seeing where it takes you.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Indeed, that wood must be very heavy (MDF is a back killer for sure)...as for the sound, I think that the best place for speakers and such could be hidden in the main pilot unit, that way, your panels will be untouched. Hang in there, while there's a lot of work left to be done, it'll be over one day soon.
Btw, seeing those yokes on the main pilot unit made my heart skip a beat...or two;)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Funny story... Chris and I had some down time and we had our faces buried in ESB screenshots doing some investigative work. Not 20 feet away was the cockpit... Game of Thrones actors Amrita Acharia (IRRI) and Kristian Nairn (Hodor) took a few pics inside the Pit! We were SO preoccupied we never heard them, saw them, et... we had no idea! Enjoy! :)

That is the way I would tackle it. Just make a grid structure of aluminum then bolt the plywood to it. Definitely lighter than wood studs and square tubing would be very strong.

Hi D,

Anything lighter than what I have would help! These platforms are a killer both to haul and store. Thanks for the info - definately looking into it!

Hi T,

The Segway was awesome. I used to skateboard as a kid - halfpipes, ramps, etc... I couldn't balance on that thing to save my life. Patrick was just zipping around... show off! ;)

I tried to get as many pics as I could without "duplicating" anything. I know there will come a point when everybody will say "... seen it... been there...". The next phases of the build will be interesting. Aside from the obvious canopy details, I have to start looking at the outer skin, front window, lighting, sound... and the list goes on and on...

Super photos, them ESB panels slot in seamlessly!

Thanks W! I'm really happy with how they turned out. Not bad for a 24 hour rush job! ;)

Chris will be creating and vacuforming the black "lids" that attach to the 4 upper ESB panels. That will definately fill in those spaces...

Hi Jo,

UGH... the platforms are a killer... Chris and I are still looking into different options. Not only will there be speakers but we have to leave room for the circuit boards and wiring. It's my hope that each panel will still be able to stand alone once it is taken apart. Each panel would then connect to a main wiring harness that runs to its power supply. We also have DarthChromer working the radar scope, door lights and the throttle levers! It's really coming together!

I brought the yokes and had them sitting on the display table. I still have to figure out how to mount them. I would like to include a ball joint style mount the same as the original. Wavey... any ideas on what that might be? ;)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I continue to be blown away by the special form of madness that drives your quest for perfection on this amazing project. They would have hauled me away to the funny farm a long time ago! I hope, that when you complete this project, you consider contacting the Sci Fi Museum in Seattle, Washington. I know they exibit "on loan" pieces like yours and pay for crating and transportation. It would probably give you a paid vacation since you would have to supervise assembly. When they showed the BSG full size Viper recently, they even had to remove part of a wall to get it inside the building! The museum was opened by billionaire Paul Allen. I think he secretly just ran out of room for his own collection of props. Ha, ha. Anyway , beautiful work on this incredible project.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Thanks so much! My Ex wasn't really into the whole Sci-Fi thing either. She thought what I was doing was cool but didn't understand it at all. Do you have the link to the article? Would love to see it!

I couldn't find it on my own, but I'll see if the girlfriend can. I do know this, she was on reddit (which I know practically nothing about format-wise) and she came across it while on the Subreddit for Game of Thrones. :lol:lol:lol How they made that jump, I have absolutely NO IDEA. :)

Be sure to click on the article to read the whole thing, the condensed cover-page appears to not mention Greg at all, but in fact it's just lost in the condensed front-page snippet.

Fantastic stuff this vid:cool, it really comes alive and kicks ***** for sure. As for the seats; are you going to cover them with the same type of fabric as in the movie?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

As many of you know, Timothy Zahn was signing autographs at GMX. He and his wife, two very gracious and down to earth people, took the time to sign one of the instrument panels...

Hi Ray,

Thank you so much. I think I am mad... I keep asking myself why I'm doing this... Packing, unpacking, driving, hauling, packing unpacking... Seeing the expressions on peoples faces coupled with their excitement for the project reminds me why I'm mad ;)

When the bulk of the project gets started, I don't think there would be any issue with our loaning the cockpit to various museums - exposure is the best way to promote the project! Chris has already been in contact with several organizations hoping for that exact thing. So... things are really beginning to pick up.

I would really like to build part of the hallway that leads to the cockpit... but I think I might be stretching myself a bit too thin - or just running out of room... ;)

Thanks again for the kind words. Stay tuned... I have a 4 day weekend and I hope to get back out to the garage and have some fun!

Hey J,

I'm kicking myself for not taking my own vids... I'm making a promise to start posting videos of the build starting this weekend!

As for the seats, they will be covered exactly the same way they appear in the movie. We think the screen used seats were/are Porsche Carrera seats. They run around 1500-3000 dollars for the pair. The JEGS racing seats are very close in shape. It just doesn't make sense to spend that kind of money on two seats when the money can be spent elsewhere on the project.
