David,
First, your costume looks sick.
Awesome, thank you!
No I just used 1/2 foam sheets. I cut them into the basic Destroyer shapes and built up from there. My KISS tribute is going to Dynasty suits in a few months. I have a few questions.
1. You mentioned that that Destroyer armor was used as the chasis for the original Dynasty suit. Did you use any sort of chasis or hard mount for your armor, or is that white sheet foam your chasis?
I've been using different thicknesses from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inch depending on where I want the bulk. Shoulders are 1 1/2, Chest is 1 inch and the rest is 1/2 with heavy cotton dipped in latex build up. I had some foam sheeting in house, and bought the rest at Canadian Tire in their camping section. $12.00 per roll as a mattress VS $70+ per meter at the fabric store. You do the math...and trust me, just go to a camping supply area and buy their foam mattresses...it's the same thing as what you buy from Fabricland.2. You are using some type of foam sheets. How thick are these sheets, and where did you buy them from?
No that's not gauze...it's the cotton sheeting used for Halloween webs and Christmas decorations. I bought 2 rolls of this stuff for like $6.00 each...with plenty to spare. I just rip chunks off of the roll, dip them in latex, and stretch them around the foam shapes.3. The cotton sheets look like gauze. Is that what you're using?
I used Latex Rubber FMF 5 Gal(20L) (223625) ...because I wanted a watery latex which would make it spray-able without having to dilute it. I usually heat it dry instantly with a heat gun...takes seconds or a few short minutes at best...otherwise if I've done a thick build up and there's a lot of latex then I'll just put a fan on it and come back to it in about 15 min and keep working. As for where to buy latex...I'm in Canada so Sculpture Supply Canada - plaster, silicone, carving stones, Toronto but if you're in the USA then try MonsterMakers.4. What latex do you use, where can it be purchased, and how long does it take to dry?
It'll probably have a zipper down the back, and also open up in the mid front. Again, not 100% sure yet as this does keep evolving but now that it's pretty much done, I do have to decide what's best to take this on and off...and I'm not a fan of needing help to suit up so not sure about the back zip just yet...we'll see.5. How will you fasten the chest to you?
Thanks!
Hope this helps bud!
