You ever sell a prop, then regret it??

I was wondering if any of you guys have ever sold a prop, then regretted selling it. I know I have on several occasions. I had a nice Coyle Blade Runner Blaster and a great Pulse Rifle that I sold when I needed the money. Both of which I have replaced since, as my collection felt incomplete without them.

I had a Ghostbuster's Proton Pack that I traded off, a super nice Romulan Disruptor, and a weathered TOS Phaser that I wish I had back.

Anyone else ever do that?

Usually i don't sell something i am really attached to. But 4 years ago when i needed money for an international move, i was forced to sell my full Starship Troopers screen used outfit with Hero Morita, which i got from the propstore. That one really hurt.

Had a ep2 clone costume that I sold to fund my 3PO build. Sort of regret selling it as it would have made a nice display piece.

Yup - Had a Star Trek TNG Mk vi tricorder - Screen used directly from Ed Miraecki - Matched Screencaps & everything. Same as you guys - Needed fast money for bills - Probably never see that one again.

I regret selling lots of props over the years. Heck, I actually obtained my "holy grail" prop - a fully authenticated hero Rocketeer helmet - and wound up selling it to try and help my family's financial situation. I don't think my reasoning was wrong but I still miss the heck out of owning that prop... I know I'll never be able to afford another prop remotely like it. But there'll always be other props to own...

I'm a selfish barstool and would rather sell blood and other body fluids than my props, even if they are someone else's.My prop collection may not compare too many RPF members ,but i went through hard times to get the things i own.Iwould rather sell a Kidney than my props so if anyone has one spare let me know LOL

sold my own personal copy of the 2-1b heads

still kicking myself :angry

I think at some point every prop collector ends up selling something they truly want because of the value they have associated with it and in the hopes of making up some money to help with any given finacial situation. And of course I have done the same sold an all steel pulse rifle made from a Blank firing Thompson replica with all the right parts. Still kicking myself but hey it happens and since what I needed at the time was more important I did it and try not to think about it but, of course that doesnt always work lol.

who hasn't? usually because I had more than one version of same prop and could not justify having duplicates.

one I regret was a Deschennes/Starfleet Fabrication Communicator -- they are hard to come by and it had sentimental value...but at the time, I likely needed the cash to fund some other prop/toy purchase...or simply needed to by food.

I'm sure there have been a few others...and I imagine we're all in the same boat when we say we wish we hadn't. :)

Sold most of my 1:1 Star Wars character collection, theater seats, and leather recliners in December. Miss them every day, especially my Han in Carbonite. Separation forced me to do this.

Sold 3 full sized sAW Puppets to fund 1 full sized sAW Puppet. Each puppet has has their own sentimental value but when I receive the newest sAW puppet none of those 3 will matter.

Regret = "wish I had never sold it"

When you say you regret selling a prop, it implies that you had options. If you had to sell a prop to keep the roof over your head, good for you! You're responsible.
You had no other choice? You should have no regrets.

However in my case, I do have regrets of selling a prop. Usually because I was bored with it and found something I thought I liked better. So I've sold props to fund another. Many times I wished I had not sold a particular piece.

Now THAT'S regret.

Does that make sense?

I miss all my scratchbuilds. Thats one of the bad parts about taking commissions - you get attached to the stuff you make and its hard to give up.

Of all of them, I think I miss the Laser Rifle the most.... but I'll have to ship out the Daft Punk helmet soon, and thats going to sting a little.

Picky picky. Let's not split hairs over the definition of regret. It sucks and I wish I didn't have to. Sheesh.

Makes sense to me. In my case, with my "holy grail" prop, I *had* the option but I felt like selling it was the more responsible choice for the sake of the family. Of course, there are lots of other props of lesser value I really didn't have to sell that I definitely regret and wish I hadn't parted with.

I guess with the helmet, it's not so much "regret" by that definition. It's more that I just miss having it and know I won't be able to ever replace it.

This is starting to sound like a therapy session isn't it? :lol

Oh yes, my entire screen used Judge Dredd collection! Full street judge, Aspen Guard helmet, Judge Hunter helmet, miniature signs, walls, foam stunt gun etc....sigh....weep weep.

I usually dont sell anything unless I have 1 or 2 back ups to take its place. ;)

I'd have to be really hurting to sell my one of a kind stuff.

I know that props are awesome and we do whatever we can to get them, but in the end, its just all stuff. Who gets it when you die? You have gotten the "Holy grail" that you searched so long and hard to get, and what does it do? It sits in a display case for you to look at and show your friends--sure you may take it out now and then, go to a convention, etc, but bottom line is --it just sits.
Better to have possessed something and sold it or given it away to better yourself or someone else than to just hoard things. (not that this is what anyone is doing)

It was once asked of Rockefellers lawyer after he died---"How much money did he leave"
The answer simply was--"All of it!"
So if you part with something for something better--you have the memory and no one can take that.

Life is too short--I would dump everything I had if it meant a chance to do something that I always wanted or wanted to help someone--and I wouldnt look back or regret it.

Just my take on things--
