Have any of you obtained licensing to create and sell replicas?

Reason I'm asking is that I have in my possession an original screen used prop from a cult movie and was thinking about reproducing this to sell.

It's illegal to do without a license, but the ones of you who have reproduced and sold props, what kind of quantity are we talking about. I don't think a film studio would take action if you do a run of 10, but say 100 or 1000?

In my case there were two production companies involved and then a distributor. Who holds the rights to the prop and what actions do I take when contacting them about this.

If things would go well I would be happy to continue doing this well over 10 items because I think it's a cool prop and people have been asking for it.

I received a C&D on selling my replica Time Bandits maps. On a whim, I emailed the contact on the C&D and asked about the process of making it a licensed replica. They were open to the process. We haggled back and forth for a few months and they drew up a contract. I believe my experience is pretty rare. But this is a small company. Your mileage may vary if you're dealing with one of the big film companies.

What he said. IPs/companies might be complicated to deal with when it comes to reproduce props/models/paper props, etc...
Don't start anything without first contacting the proper licensee owning the rights. Good luck!
