Yale and ERA Tardis Key Research (Info for the 1963-present keys)

Here are a couple of keys I got in today. I bought them with a lock but at the time I had hoped the numbers that are on the key face were just glare on the packaging in the photo. Unfortunately they were not.

My intent was to re-purpose the First Doctor key that I ordinarily use in my collection as a Sixth Doctor key - I was never really happy with my Sixth key - since I only have the one and can't find a twin to use for Susan. And with these new keys being silver, it would look better on Susan's chain as well as make it look different enough from the other keys in my collection. But the numbers have presented me with a dilemma. I honestly was bummed this morning when I saw them there but the more I hold the keys the more I don't mind them. So I think I may still go ahead and use them and hope one day to find a similar set with out the numbers, I like my companion keys to match the Doctor that they belong to if there were no screen accurate references to go by. And really the numbers almost don't even stand out to me anymore and I've only had the keys for less than a day.

It was a set sealed in modern plastic packaging too. I wonder what the reasoning could be. But I have to say I love these keys. the more I play with them today the more I like them. Writing isn't bothering me so much. If I can replace them I will but it's not killer right now.

So guys, I know this is a little off topic but I've been working on getting a steel version of Pertwee's key made using the pics that Great Wazoo posted in that old key thread. I have a friend that does brazing on steel so we're thinking of cutting the patterns out separately and brazing them on the front part, then soldering the back and front together.

Thanks to you obsessed nuts I've gone and converted my spare house key into a custom perception filter! No- seriously, thank you, I've got the coolest house key on the block now.

That would be great! I'd love to have all the special keys in a stronger metal to be honest.

lol I think you have become one of us ;)

Lately I've been working on my Evolution key pic. I wanted to update it with keys I had gathers to complete the collection and then it hit me that I could make this into a 50th Anniversary celebration piece. And so I did.

So after many months of scouring key lots on Etsy & eBay I finally, finally, FINALLY landed one of these beauties!

Quite a search, only one minor scratch on the front, but it's fantastic.

Very nice find! Been looking for another myself for my Susan key. If the seller had any more let me know, I'd love to get another.

Very nice picture so far! I plan to try something similar but honestly I think you did it better than I could, lol.

As for the steel keys, it's in the works. We're TALKING about doing a short run of them so maybe I'll expand this thread to also include special keys as well so we can research them a bit more.

Nice find! I like that one. I still like my blank chrome keys for Susan but that would make a nice 5th, 6th or 7th Doctor's 80's key too.

Are you planning on possibly doing an 8th in steel? I'd be all over that.

Please do as I doubt I'll ever come across a Trekker key.

Yeah! SHUT UP AND TAKE OUR MONEY!!! ;)

Well, maybe, we'll see what we can do. ;-)

Really I will be getting paid in free keys for any business I bring him since that's my original goal but I can see doing a Trekker type key. Can't call it recasting either since it's construction methods will be entirely different as will the materials. Yes, I think that would be rather good. Still, no sense in putting the cart before the horses. We're still making templates on paper for the Pertwee key and then we need to try MAKING one to see how difficult it will be to keep the patterns from drifting while the brazing flows. If it's too hard to do a run may not happen, in which case the keys may wind up in a one-off status. If it's easy enough a limited run of 20 each style to test the waters will be possible. After that the TREKKER key will be a fun follow up. But again, that's getting ahead of ourselves, lol.

Well keep me in the loop for sure! Por favor?
