X-Men 2 Carphone

ABS....hmmm. That would be an excellent option. But alas not. Email them to ask? I'll see/feel how this alumide plastic acts and give honest feedback.

Nice one Super:D... I see you couldn't wait for the redesign. Go choice cos I cant find the time to get at it the past few weeks:/
I was looking at the xmen movie stills again and it looks like there is a little metal hook on each side to stop the top and bottom slides. Im
looking forward to seeing what mech you will come up with.

Who did you get the Shaw helmet from? You wouldst even buy my one!:p

Shapeways only use SLS printing for production, the one with the laser solidifying process..they can run multiple materials with each machine. It doesn't need a support structure filament like 3d printing ABS(FDM) so its cheaper. And its faster with larger printing area.

Yeah...I couldn't wait....as a matter of fact, SO impatient I forgot to order the V3 bottom!
Had to complete the piece, so I ordered it... I knew something was amiss with the total $. 6 pieces all together.

The helmet was from CommanderCody. back in 2011. I do need a new one. As this one was sculpted perfected, reinforced with fiberglass and the paint job was awesome! Only issue...didn't fit my tiny dome. Had to place military foam inserts for kevlar helmets to make it fit. :/

Hook latches you say on the phone?? Care to share the images you spotted them on?

Nope. Alumide was available at the time...now it's not. It's clearly in my order invoice.

I emailed them this afternoon. They responded quickly, here's their reply:

"According to our records, your order was cancelled due to a design issue the designer needs to correct.
They have been informed of the issue at this time so hopefully they can correct it soon.
Store credit has been issued to your account.
You can apply your Store Credit to any order. Just use the APPLY CREDIT
button on the “Cart” page (step1) of the checkout.
If you prefer a refund instead of store credit, I am happy to arrange it for you. Just let me know!
Hope this helps clear up any confusion."

I guess we need to address this to Jaybible so the correction can be made. Not exactly sure of the issue, but it seems one exists according to Shapeways...

Yeh i got that email but it makes no sense. It has to do with the the lower section holes being too close to the edge..which makes no sense since
it is almost the exact same as the top.
It was fine for the WSF but i guess the thickness wasnt enough for the alumide. I'll get this sorted on Monday.

I dont have solidworks at home atm so everything has to be done at work.

Welp, I just sanded the parts I do have in preps to have them slide better, as the machined plastic was seriously rough. Oh as a precaution I learned when sanding, that the black option for the stong/flexible is just a paint job. It seems to be white underneath.

Oh that's interesting.. I wonder why they dont have black filament.. cheapos

Keep us posted on what your doing Super:).. Also any criticism on size and shape would be great

The shape and size seems to be fine to me.

Were you able to fix the discrepancy with Shapeways so I can purchase the last part?

Still waiting to hear back..maybe you have to order for them to tell me the changes worked or didn't work. There is a
thin section that appears when i convert to stl. Hopefully they ignore that.

How's it going so far, any sliding mech?

Okay. I guess I'll contact them, if they ignore that, maybe with an order like last time...

No, not yet. I was planning having all the proper pieces first then move on to the mechanics. But that's just my laziness really. I'll have to work on breaking down that Nerf gun and stripping it of it's innards. I'll pick up a $12 Blutooth ear piece soon. I was going to ask a friend of mine, his input on this as he is a genius MaGyver-esque engineer when it comes to fabricating electronics. Side note: he once created a amplified directional wifi receiver out of a Pringles can, because our shared signal was weak and we couldn't sit closer to the transmitter.

Thanks to Jaybible, I got an email stating the V3 end piece had been adjusted, so I used my credit from Shapeways to finally buy the two last pieces. Photos to come.

Finally received my 2 pieces last week. I accidentally ordered the V3 end in white. Although not as heavy and sturdy, the cut/carving it did was a whole lot cleaner. I'm a little concerned now with the other end and eventually adding the hex screws. The holes are a little too close to the edge for my taste. I now realize why Shapeways recommended the change. Any chance you could alter the holes closer to the middle, away from the edge on other side of the phone, Jay?

I'll take and post good angles of the pieces and as a whole this week, so everyone can see the results.

sorry for the delay in my reply. I have had a lot going on, graduation from ITT, mother in the hospital and the list goes on. but to answer your question. the Charge coils are so we can recarge the battery in the hand set without plugging it in directly. Hopefully by next summer I will have my own 3D printer. Now that school is out of the way I can focus more on the project. I might have been out of touch for a while but never stop thinking about the project and trying to figure out the inner working of the base unit.

what software are you doing your designs in? and dose it output in .stl format. I am planing on purchasing a Solidoodle SD-3Dpo-4 3D Printer real soon. but I need to find a good program that will work with it.

sorry for the delay in getting back, between work, finishing school and getting side track with comic cons. I had little time to work on it. But as promised here is a photo of what buffed metal paint looks like on plastic. This is a model I am working on with fiber-optics in it that has the same paint applied to it. This was buffed with just one coat on it. What do you think, will this work? After buffing a couple of clear coats will keep it from rubbing off so easy.

Damn i thought this had died haha.. Thanks for the kick up the butt Sy.

another coat and some buffed clears and it will look pretty damn sweet:)
