Wrath of Khan: Wrist communicator...what is it?

I've been after the real world piece for many years and I can't seem to track one down. Though there are even a couple of threads right here on the RPF about it AND a member even owns a real world piece, no one seems to know what it is. I scoured the web and other Trek boards to no avail regarding any information as to the company that made it or even what it does!
What I've been able to gather is that it is a vintage wrist device that is:
A. A heart/pulse monitor
B. A pedometer
C. A jogging watch
D. A wrist radio

With that information, I've scoured the web for the last few years doing every search imaginable, every image search and every possible lead I could find on every site that makes mention of it. What I'd like to know is, what the device ACTUALLY is and what was the name of the company that made them. Either nobody knows for sure or they are keeping quiet (i'm assuming to make their item more valuable).

Can any body shed some light on what this artifact actually is? Surely someone has to know. It's one of my holy grails from this movie and I would love to get one.

Interesting, pics, Mike! Unfortunately nothing there that gives a hint to what it was. :cry

Much bigger that any of the above

It was referred to a "jogging computer" that was made in the day. I never heard the maker. Jogging was getting to be a cool thing to do in the late '70's so it was probably a gimmicky item left over from then and repurposed for the '82' film. I was able to examine one when I toured Modern Props back in '85. They had buckles on the wrist bands and as I understand Terrel had his attach with velcro so he could remove it with his teeth. The surface was tinted plex and had L.E.D.s that lit up under the plex.
From the various pictures this one is very accurate.

….

I don't remember micronization being this advanced when Wrath of Khan came out. I would guess a calculator watch or LCD display watch. A-D in your list were still quite huge, I believe.

Wow. So much information yet I'm no closer to finding this thing.

I did a few Google Image Searches for various terms, and checked eBay: No exact matches :(

I've seen some watches with similar-shaped buttons, four in a row, but have no idea if the size is correct. IF the buttons the Photobucket guy shows ARE the real found parts, they appear to be from a radio / walkie talkie of some kind.

Additionally, the possibility exists that it is none of the four candidates, but something similar: bio-rhythm watch, fertility cycle watch, dive calculator, IDK. I recall people being certain that the Obi-Wan ANH gear was from a lawnmower, that flash hiders were from fire extinguishers, the Obi-Wan emitter was a fire sprinkler head, etc...
