Wolverine all day baby! Jackets, belts, claws, oh my.

Yes, his jackets are standard comp weight, but if you ask you can get his jackets in any hide you want, but beware, that also affects wait time, due to possible sourcing of leather...i.e. horse hide or if they need to reorder a particular type like MI9 leather which is a mid weight that easily distresses like the cowhide Heron and Wested use, but it's a solid color and it's not predistessed, but will do so over a shorter period of time due to the coloring is a topcoat that crackles, which is a type of analine dye.

You really can't beat Dan's work, but those that have already ordered with Dan, he's hashing his issues out as we speak, but this what your Vanson could ultimately look like:

its the price that Kills me. If Heron can nail the X-1 Ill buy theirs. And knowing you Tony im sure they will. If i don't like the results of the final tweeking of that jacket i will save and buy a Vanson from Dan. With hopes of matching he correct leather hide used on the screen used and thickness. Dans is my fave x-1

I don't blame you for being price conscience. But I will stand by the justification of a Vanson purchase. I don't own one, but I know personally what it takes to make one from start to finish. I will say in the same breath, that I will also stand by Heron and Wested toughness and quality. But there are obvious pattern tweaks for both companie's X1 jacket...which are well within most price ranges. The one huge thing Heron has over others in the level of communication and desire for mass feedback. I see that as a unique strength that I rarely see in leather vendors with lower costs. Magnoli is great with feedback but I see his costs as too high for me, especially for cowhide. I believe it's due to each item being a one-off custom, but his patterns are remarkable excellent. His Heath-Joker costume items are spot on.

Hi BowelRock,

I know I haven't posted here yet, but I've been a member of FJ.com for a while. Nice to meet you.

As Drool said, with Dan you can choose any hide you want, as well as other changes too (color of stripes, hardware, etc). I completely understand that the price may seem high. It took me about a year to save up for my X1, and 1/2 a year to save up for my X2. I was glad I did. The quality is outstanding. I have had the opportunity to try on a lot of the jackets with the different hides. I would be glad to answer any questions from my own personal experience. :)

Damn, if they get the details even closer, I might just have to cave in and sell mine and buy another one haha.

Another thing I noticed on mine is it seems like the chest zippers might be a little bit off from SA as well.

I think Tony will be helping them refine the X-1 jacket to an acceptable SA jacket. They aren't that far off as it stands now, The big eyesores are how large the sleeves are and the waist stripes. I love the fact that its not a thick jacket in the film, that will help the price as well. The x-1 is my fave jacket and i think Heron will nail it sometime soon. I know the sleeves on the screen used were damn near air tight when it is zipped up. When they are unzipped the sleeve still tapers down.

Comedian your sleeves zipped look the correct size as the screen used does unzipped. If you got that and your waist stripes fixed you would have a great looking jacket.

MY beef with my heron x-2 is the sleeves when open are massive. I never wear it open because of this, they look aweful open. I hope to find someone to talor them down for me.

Yeah I agree, if the sleeves are fixed, and the waist stripe adjusted a bit, they'd have a damn near perfect jacket. I'm not even sure if the chest zippers are off or not, it just seems to me on mine that they are. Don't get me wrong, I'm still 100% happy with my jacket, and you cant get any better for the price. We haven't had much cold weather here in Canada yet, it's only snowed once this winter and it's already melted, but when it does get cold I layer it with a jean jacket or hoodie and it's plenty warm.

I actually just got a quote today to get the sleeves tailored and it's only going to cost about $40 so I'm dropping it off this weekend.

$40 is cheap as hell. You have a rare gem for a tailor in my opinion.

Yeah I was really surprised at the price. He's always been relatively reasonable though, my Dad's bought leather items off him for quite a few years and knows the guy quite well so that might be the reason for the low price, but either way I'm not complaining lol

No, no complaints here. I would expect dissecting a leather jacket and liner like that to run at least $75. I paid an elderly seamstress to remove 2 stripes and add 3 on each side of the sleeves, for my Black Wilson's/ M. Julian makeshift/frankenstein X1 jacket back in 2002( to which I painted over in acrylics that have lasted to this day)...when there were no X-Jackets on the market. I bought the jacket right off a stranger's back walking by him. Crazy, I know...

some things I noticed that would help the Heron X1 would be to change all the zips to silver or nickel not sure which one it is, just know its a silvery colored zipper, and there heavy duty. The zippers also seem to go all the way down past the waist stripe on the original, while the Vanson stop at the top of the waist stripe. From the pictures, Heron has that, but the screen used one is a left hand zip.
The arm stipes look a bit wide too? and I guess the most important thing is the main leather color I really like the dark brown on my Vanson X1 but I notice as it wears the color underneath has a redish tint while the one used on screen has a yellowish tent in the worn places? just some observations maybe some of this will help?

You know, I never noticed that about the front zipper. I wonder if that was a detail missed by Dan, or a conscious decision.

Regarding the color of the leather: InLikeFlynn on FJ.com really distressed his down, and it is looking closer to the SA jacket, from what I see.

Inlikeflynn really did do an outstanding job on his Danson X1. He really seems to have talent in that area. ;)

Dan already is aware of the zipper tape starting at the stripe, which has been discussed in some fj.com threads. I have mentioned it at one point, and I believe that was a mutual decision between Vanson and Dan. The black plastic boxes then use at the bottom where the pin slides in has also been addressed. So there are details that diverge and compromises that were consciencously made from the actual screen worn jacket, that Dan has stated as being a better overall product from Vanson.

I got my X-2 from Dan yesterday afternoon. I absolutely love it. Someone brought the box into my office, and at first I didn't care since I figured it was just another delivery. Then I saw what I thought was the Logan's Closet logo on the mailing label, and I just stood there staring. I immediately opened the box and tried it on. Although no one who saw me in it recognized where it was from, they all raved about how great it looked. I asked someone to snap a few pictures. I know Logan would never wear this jacket with the clothes I'm wearing, but I figured this was my best shot to get some quick photos.

Looking good, enervator! I absolutely love mine as well. I see you went with the distressed option...really cool. I'm going to take some more pics and post soon. I already have some on FJ.com. Enjoy, man!

I don't see missing arm stripes too often, but for that SA look, you can't beat it. Dan did a good job with the distress treatment. The fit is perfect, and we are officially friends, now that you chose to go with the X2. :lol
Wear the Vanson in good health, Enervator. :)

Thanks for the compliments. I debated for a while whether or not to get it distressed, and then obviously I went with the decision to have Dan do it. Needless to say, he did a fantastic job. The jacket feels amazing. I haven't even had it a day, but it's already my favorite, and I've received tons of compliments on it.

Except from one person. He saw it, and complimented me on my new jacket. Then he took another look at it and said that it's used. I tried to explain that it was new, but weathered, and he just couldn't grasp the concept. I think he's convinced that I'm wearing someone else's old jacket, which I guess is actually a testament to the great job Dan did in distressing it.
