Wolverine all day baby! Jackets, belts, claws, oh my.

Agreed... Considering his x3. Not counting out his x2, though still loving my bates.

On the quality and cost issues of each vendor mentioned above?

I own examples of each. I think I own the only custom bates jackets around this place? I've also bought Magnoli and heron. The vansons are indeed superior in materials, workmanship, and cut. My XO from Dan being the last jacket I've received, I can comfortably state they are head and shoulders above those other makers jackets. I attribute it to two things; Vanson's pedigree and Dan's insistence on authenticity. Nobody - even people who have measured me personally - have fitted me as well as Vanson. Dan/Vanson have my business. The price is absurdly reasonable and the quality is exponentially greater. It's really that simple.

Dayum! So what made you go with those colors? I can't tell by pics but the leather looks like the smooth stuff Dan used in that second option for the XO on FJ right?

Thx. It's the MI9. The colors not translating well - or at least the shininess. Also - those pics were right out if the box. She's relaxing. I love the cut. My long body & short torso? Waist length never looks right but they nailed my pattern.

I think you're right about the leather - ie it was that second option. It's darkening and creasing well.

Which X2 do you have?

I have the OLF X2 like I had planned..it's a few pages back. It turned up good but not screen accurate. I spent over an hour on the phone with Milos and even sent pics of what it looked like and measurements but didn't get some of the things I wanted. I could suggest you soak that collar and mold it into a circle and let it air dry. That'd get rid of the S-shape you've got going on there. It helped get mine that way! And hell, that leather is more SA than the stuff mine was made in. Mine has that grainy dark brown leather. Makes me want to get another one with the M19 leather. Any plans on darkening the stripes? You're the first person I've seen after me post a picture of an XO and I got mine back in March. Also, a neat thing about my amber tan collar is that it's darkened up noticeably. I guess from the dirt on my neck but the jacket overall weathers damn nicely.

Nice jacket man! But damn that color looks horribly off.

Well, I think that may be a bit of a dramatization? (grin). It photographs dark - especially inside. It's the lighting. It's actually the leather Dan picked to better hit the color. Once temps drop below 90d f I'll get some natural light on it. I haven't been out of shorts most of this summer - and the AC guy tells me I've got a $10,000+ investment in my near future at the rate my compressors are going. They have not turned off for 10 days.

I had a chance at my daughters soccer game a few weeks ago - rain and 60's. I'll see if the wife caught me in any of those pics on her little ELF.

Hers a pic I grabbed of the cuffs. It is a better rep of the color.

That buck tan color isn't the standard color is it? From what I've seen on all his XO's thusfar has been more of the amber tan color and with his plus the distressing of the alcohol rub down.

Hey Tony - good to see you!

I'd defer to Danny-boy on that, but I just asked for the MI9. He said he had something in mind for me and I'm a happy customer. And - playing that same old violin - I'm really needing to get better pics. I've got the right camera and lens - just need the discipline of time.

Roger that Patterson. Welcome back! ;) Would love to see some sun lit day photos of the leather color.

You plan on washing this one too? :lol

Patterson, would you be so kind as to post pics of your Bates X2? I'm curious to see how it looks. Thanks!

You know why? Because you cant get better than the original maker!

I feel like that statement is not entirely true. While it's always cool to own a piece from the original manufacturer, I don't necessarily think that always means that it will be the most accurate replica to the screen used version. Such is the case with an accurate replica of the Indiana Jones fedora. Sure, you can still order a hat from the original manufacturer that is CLOSE to the original, but it is not 100% accurate to the one seen on screen in Raiders. To get a really good replica you must go elsewhere.

Not saying you wont be happy with a Bates. It certainly looks to be a fine jacket, but after all this talk Im surprised you'd still choose them over Dan's Vanson. But to each their own. I would be excited to see another member in a Bates X2 :).

Jacket looks really great Patterson! Did you say you even think the vanson comes out ahead of it? Thats pretty interesting. Those pics also really help clear up the inner sleeve seam debate on here. Thanks so much for posting!

My experience with bates was a rollercoaster. It took over a year. The price of that jacket was $1,550. They measured me personally. And when I received it, the size was way off. The fit you see was achieved by my running a $1,550 jacket through a double wash cycle at 180d f, then drying it on high to about half-dry and wearing/stretching it the rest of the way. Bates is a small family shop. They can fit "normal" people fine. But I'm a weightlifter. They measured me and I gave them guidance on how other tailors fit me. They pretty much ignored me. That was frustrating - but it's why I thought I was paying so much for a real custom fit. After the words we exchanged, they will no longer accept my business, but I would never give it to them again. I also have a Terminator jacket they made at the same time. It was part of the drama. The waist was 4+ inches too big - even with everything cinched-up. I joked that they are used to fitting fat guys...

I'm sure a more "normal" physiqued person would have better luck. The quality is great. They do great detailed and durable work. But for that price I expect them to listen better.

So, yeah... I'd still recommend Vanson over Bates. When Vsnson had a similar problem nailing my size, they took back a finished custom jacket and fixed the pattern. They insisted on it. In the same situation, Bates BLAMED ME for it.

And the Vanson is a better jacket. I've owned dozens of jackets. The Vanson is better made and the quality and consistency of materials is far superior.
