Wolverine all day baby! Jackets, belts, claws, oh my.

Based on the images, I'm not sure any amount of shrinkage will help the fit. As I see, the jacket looks to be a 2 sizes too big...all around. The back as well as the sleeves. Like Fifth stated the leather is built to withstand weather and temperature, but it's your jacket now, and risking it may in fact do some good. But be careful...you may break your washer and dryer in the process. :p

booshman, I don't know much about shrinking leather, but comonbub's, fitfhchamber's, and superDrool's advice sounds pretty solid. It seems too big to try to shrink it. I would be afraid that trying to shrink it would risk damaging the jacket. If all else fails you could always sell it to acquire funds for a new X-1, or you could try to layer the jacket you have now with a denim jacket like they did in X-1 for Hugh. Bare in mind this will not completely resolve the size issue, but it might make the illusion that it fits a little better. I did this with one of my jackets that's too big and it fit better in the chest, but it didn't do much for the sleeves and length, so it won't fix the issue entirely.
Besides the size issue that jacket looks great, I never get tired of seeing the X-1.

Cheers for the info comonbub, I will get some pics up later, once the missus gets back and can take them for me. Could you tell me what was the rate of shrinkage for your jacket, and how long you left it in? And was it even? I've read about wavy zippers due to the length being altered but the hardware staying the same size, and since there is one on both sleeves I'd hate for that to happen.

You're gonna get those wavy zippers no matter what on the sleeves, there's no avoiding that. I would set your dryer on the medium heat setting and check on it every 20-30 minutes.

I think Superdrool said it best. The jacket looks all around too big on you, I don't think you'll be able to shrink it enough to get the fit that you want.

That being said, if you're going to try it, be careful. There's no 100% sure-fire way to do it without at least some risk. There's always a chance that something could go wrong. I shrunk my Heron X-1 by putting it in the shower and using the shower head to go over it with water until it was good and wet, then I hung it up in the shower and let it air dry until it stopped dripping, and then wrapped it in a towel or two, and put it in the dryer on a low heat setting, checking it every 10-15 minutes to make sure the leather wasn't warping or burning.

The heat is going to be what you'll want to watch the most though, I tried shrinking a leather jacket once and ended up ruining it in the dryer because I forgot to check the heat and the leather got so hot it started to bubble up.

I'd say the problem you're going to face, is that Dan's leather choices aren't especially "weak" when hit by water...On some leathers, thinner, more porous types, you can reduce maybe a half size to a size by soaking and drying...But the cowhide that Dan uses isn't especially open to water, which means it won't shrink all that much...I'd say you could still try it....You'd have nothing to lose..But....Be prepared for not much change at all...Maybe a half size at best?
What you could try is building yourself up to fit it? More chest, bigger shoulders would make the fit smoother and snugger, and perhaps pull the arms up a small touch too? But that would take about 2-3 months of solid diet and training...Not impossible, but would work well enough if you had the time?
That, plus the jacket shower? Might work enough to fit it well?

Thanks for all the advice guys. I think I'm gonna have to just sell it and get a smaller one. I hate to have to part with it as I really love it, but I would hate to mess the thing up even more. It's going to be too hot here to wear it in a month or two anyway, so there's plenty of time to get a new one sorted for next year. Cheers again!

Out if interest what size is it?
I wish jackets had been too big usually have the opposite problem :)

Logan's Closet jackets are a touch larger than the "usual" size listing..Which might make the 42 about a 43 or so chest...So it depends on what size you actually are eh? I'm a 46 usually..Dan's jackets fit me at 44....Although they are close at that size....Might be ok in a 44?

I'll have to check me measurements properly lol
are any of the jackets more fitted than the others I.e the origins jacket compared to an x1?

All three fit me in more or less the same way...The X3 has a touch less room in the arms, but that's only a touch...(And it's not one of Dan's Vanson jackets, so probably shouldn't be counted)..
The X1 and the X0 are about the same, perhaps with the X0 a touch closer on my arms and chest? But negligibly so...They're all basically the same rider's jacket, and the differences are small in fit...I'd say the X0 is a touch better fitted than my X1...Just a touch..But, also, the X1 was a secondhand buy from "The Mechanic" over on the Filmjackets forum, so he may have asked for something more to be done...I know he wanted shorter sleeves and a touch shorter length...

Thanks for that I've got a vanson xo and that fits nice I have a habit of getting jackets too fitted and then being too tight lol
just have to decide on x3 or x2 next to be honest x3 Is winning after your pics.

I have been wanting a X-1, but my chest is about a 40 maybe a 41 now, but the jacket in my photos is suppose to be a 43 in chest (I ordered it that way so I could fit a thicker flannel shirt under it). I'm not sure what I would wear on Vanson scale, I'm 6 ft. 2in., 185 lbs., and 32 waist according to their size chart it looks custom. So, I'm not sure if could wear a 42 R. It looks like a great jacket, good luck on selling it!

Is it just me or does the waist stripe booshman's X-1 look a little too wide near the zipper? (It honestly could be just the angle and not the jacket itself though.) This was probably one of Dan's earlier jackets, I bet it has a normal Vanson tag instead of a Logan's Closet label. The jacket he sells now looks right on the money.

I think this is the sole reason why I haven't come to terms with completely accepting the X3 as being likable.

Hey Fifth,

I had NO idea that Dan dyed the XO's himself! Especially starting from a gray transforming into a distressed marbled brown.

I have a new found respect for Dan.

Ok....Last one.....

Just to double check, the Vanson jackets from Dan have no deep curve on the rear of the kidney panel..They are closer to the movie than the previous photos of Dan's jacket, and, in my humble, are THE closest jacket to what is seen on film out there right now....That might be cold hearted to some of the other sellers, and it's not meant to be..But Dan's jackets ARE the best...And while the others are decent prices, and different colours, and better at time and contact perhaps? Dan's are still WAY ahead of the game for me...

Here are the photos of the back of the jacket...

And the arm raised one too

Wow, I can't wait to get my XO. Should be coming toward the end of the month. I had no idea that he died the leather himself.

Looks like a regular Vanson Model B, not an X3. This is the basis for the X1, but was used for the House M.D. jacket with added stripes and patches.

Keep an eye on Dan's eBay page...He's a size 44/46, so if he comes across any he doesn't wear anymore, they'll be going there first...Worth the look..

I didn't realise it was based on a standard vanson still a very nice jacket :)

Thanks I've added him to my saved searches so my fingers are crossed. Will probably bite the bullet soon and order one from the site

You wouldn't lose either way I think.....Both the X2 and the X3 are great jackets....I've come to like the X3 a lot more than I did previously, based on how good the jacket is, so, either one would make you happy I reckon...
There is a wait though, be prepared for that eh? It's worth it....
