Wolverine all day baby! Jackets, belts, claws, oh my.

Awesome pics fifthchamber like the beginning of x1 :)

Snow is nuts here right now....Snowed all day yesterday, all night too, and reached about 2 feet on the roads...Not cool..It's melted a little today, but it's all turning to water and that means going out is like swimming...Already gone through two pairs of socks, and drenched my old Timberlands too...LOL...Plus, for some reason, the Japanese panic and buy EVERYTHING in the convenience store as soon as it snows...(It'll fade in like, two days..) So there's nothing left to buy there.....Heh...Ah well...I guess we DO have water...Ain't no one going to starve...Hehe..Seemed funny to me...

After the photo shoot I decided that jumping into the snow was the way to have a good day...Lovely! You could sink about a foot and a half in with a high jump and still not get to the floor....Brilliant...Get back up and still be dry too...All good..

I was happy with the photos though...They came out nice...Shame about the background, but I guess it IS "authentic Japan"..Hehe...So there IS that....

I'd rather not stay on this train of griping... but...

The promotional photos are NEVER what the customer receives in terms of painted detail quality of the figures head (or at least from what I've seen of other's photos of purchased Hot Toy figures). So here you see perfect skin tone and shading, mixed with stubble and the taper from the sideburns.
My one question to Fifth is: Does YOUR figure have this same amount of detailed painting?

The first photos they throw up are always of the initial design, one-off's, so they are painted with a fair bit more care and sculpted with all the attention that one person can give to the sculpting....Which means they DO look better than the final version..The final ones are made in bulk, and while being painted well, and sculpted well, aren't usually as amazing as the initial poster photos..

That said, yes, the skin tone is very good, the shading is balanced and well done, they eyes look amazing, the stubble leading into the beard is so well done that it can look as though he has a full beard, rather than the sideburns alone in some angles (like the movie version...Darker rooms = full beard looking hair)...So yeah, I'd say while the initial posters are special, always for Hot Toys, the final, this time is extremely well done...

Hold on..I'll try and find a decent photo if I can..

This one isn't so bad...The colours are somewhat whiter, due to the room lighting, but this is what I see...More or less..

I think it looks great

I also like that the hot toys are a good reference for building up a costume of a character
going to use the origins one as a basis got comic con :)

Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice. I just got a Vanson X-1 from a fellow RPF'er. It's absolutlely gorgeous and came a bit weathered, so it looks ace and has been broken in nicely. The thing is it's a bit big. The length is OK if maybe a tiny bit long, but nothing major. At first I thought it was the sleeves as they are about an inch and a half longer than they should be. They sit nicely on the wrist with the zipper closed all the way, but that causes bunching on the elbow. I do however now think it's the jacket is too wide, as when I pull the shoulder in a bit, it fixes the arm length issue.

Anyway, I've been looking online for a solution read that some people have shrunk leather jackets in the dryer. I wondered if anyone had ever tried to shrink their jacket a bit using heat? If I can't do it safely then I will probably have to get a replacement elsewhere, but I wonder if there s a way I can work with what I've got without ruining this beautiful coat?

Pictures would help so we can see? Yes I shrank my X1...I just soaked it in the shower and put in in the dryer on medium heat, not high because you will melt the outter layer of the jacket off as I partly found out -__________-...if you are only looking to shrink the sleeves, just soak those and pop it in the dryer.

Another picture of 70's Wolverine with bone claws.

Fifth, I will say I like your Origins jacket more than mine. I like the color on yours better. Mine is more of an ashy brown color like the one Dan is wearing on the page back. This one has more of an X1 feel to it.

So I'm trying to open The Wolverine in Windows Movie Maker so I can take out the movie version of "Where To" and make it into an MP3 for ipod use but can't figure it out...Anybody know how to import the file?

EDIT: Nvm, got it, now just trying to crop it out

While they are not as good as fifth's pictures, it snowed where I live as well and I thought I would share mine.

It's funny the jacket pictured never gets noticed as "Wolverine's", but I have a faux leather jacket I wear when it is not as cold and people have asked me if that's "Wolverine's". haha

There's something about the snow that ALWAYS makes it MORE "Wolverine"!! Heh....I reckon that jacket looks great! And a far better background than I could get as well.....The closest forest from me is a short ride away, and with the snow, I'm not risking that..Heh...

Great shots though!

Comonbub, yes...I'd wanted something a little closer to the colours of my X1..Dan had always loved the colours he used in that originally, and he said he could work on it to get something a little closer, while still being X0...I'm a little torn, since I like both styles, but the deeper red/browns seem to suit me a little better, so in the end that's what we went with...I'm glad you approve too!

Cheers for the info comonbub, I will get some pics up later, once the missus gets back and can take them for me. Could you tell me what was the rate of shrinkage for your jacket, and how long you left it in? And was it even? I've read about wavy zippers due to the length being altered but the hardware staying the same size, and since there is one on both sleeves I'd hate for that to happen.

That's when you should say, it's my jacket.
Good advice comonbub! This is the jacket I always get asked if it's "Wolverine's", it's just frustrating that it gets more recognition than my X-O, when my X-O clearly looks more like Wolverine's. It just goes to show how much the general public pays attention to the things we obsess over. haha

fitfthchamber, I agree that snow makes it feel more "Wolverine". I like my forest background, but it is so cool that your photos are actually taken in Japan! Thanks for the complement on my jacket, but I think your X-O looks better. I agree with comonbub, I love the color choice you went with (I thought there was something that I liked more about your jacket than the other Vanson X-O's that I had seen, I just couldn't put my finger on it haha). I like your X-3 as well. I bet it is hard for you to pick a jacket to wear with your X-1, X-O, and X-3. haha

Well, yeah, I liked the colours Dan chose as well....I especially liked the way he dyed the jacket...Layer over layer, to give it an uneven, worn in feel...Very cool..And I'd not really asked specifically for that...The colours are great...Thanks for agreeing with me!

And yes...The problem I have now, is that I have about 9 leather jackets, and can't wear them all at once....But that's a "problem" I'm rather lucky to face, so, I can live with it! Heh....The X0 is my favourite, simply due to the design and softness of the leather...But the X3 and X1 are both excellent as well...So...It'll depend on what I'm doing I reckon? Always a good thing to have that choice!

Btw fifth, what do the sleeves look like unzipped on your X-O?

Unzipped? Open cuffs..There's no layer inside them as in the X1...They just have the zipper...Since we don't see them in the movie, there's several choices out there for different styles eh? I opted for the open type, since I prefer the cuffs snug, but on the X1 I usually have them open..Feels too restrictive to have them zipped up..

Here's some shots of the jacket. Looking at the pics it's definitely a ways off from the nice fitted look of a lot of the jackets on here. So what do you reckon? Fixable, or back to the drawing board?

I'd say the problem you're going to face, is that Dan's leather choices aren't especially "weak" when hit by water...On some leathers, thinner, more porous types, you can reduce maybe a half size to a size by soaking and drying...But the cowhide that Dan uses isn't especially open to water, which means it won't shrink all that much...I'd say you could still try it....You'd have nothing to lose..But....Be prepared for not much change at all...Maybe a half size at best?
What you could try is building yourself up to fit it? More chest, bigger shoulders would make the fit smoother and snugger, and perhaps pull the arms up a small touch too? But that would take about 2-3 months of solid diet and training...Not impossible, but would work well enough if you had the time?
That, plus the jacket shower? Might work enough to fit it well?
