It's looking good Lee, just don't get too bogged down on details so soon, get your forms sorted and then par back things. Look forward to more progress on this...One thing is certain your skills are getting a hell of a lot better mate.

Looking good Lee, keep us updated. Anyone else notice that there is now 3 poeple sculpting a wolf mask? Makes me more egar to go out and buy a new camera to take pictures of my sculpt.

I love how his left eye (right side in the picture) is sort of bulging out a bit from his head, compared to the right eye that is a bit more closed. Some people don't care for wolf's design, but I think the battle wounds and deformities were the right way to go with this guy. He looks so badass.

I'm sure your scuplt will come out quite well - you're already getting the proportions and basic shape down, I figure that would be the most challenging part with a face like this.

Lee I just noticed something when I was looking at the straight forward pic that you might want to fix before you go into detailing on the scarred side.
now I'm not sure wether or not its the picture or what but I just thought it was something to bring to your attention.

-Chris

Mav, I havent started detailing yet, if it looks like i have then its odd, as all im doing is laying down the larger shapes.

Whoracle, his eye is not bulging, the eyes are exactly the same shape/size and depth as each other, just one side has had very little work on it , and in that picture has no eyelid o_O

Chris, the photo isnt perfectly straight , and your vertical line isnt straight because of the picture being not straight hehe, i have only done a minimal amount of work on the right side ( looking at it ) so its possibly a mix of things hehe. i think i must have fixed it slightly as looking at the sculpt behind me it doesnt look out of line, but i did do some work on his nose yesterday before work, along with chin and right lower mandible.

keep the inpuit coming though it ALL helps and is appreciated o_O

Btw he has eyelids on both sides now along with a few other tweaks

looking good so far.

Just a note DOnt make it perfect..reason being is it will look unnatural,,Something i heard many years ago from another artist was nothing in life is perfect, so i bace all my sculpts this way in regards to creatures and humanoids etc. and yes even aliens...

i find alot of what separates the finished texure is most people are tring to hard to make every bump look even or the same round shape continuing smaller, best is to look at iguannas or other scale type animalsl they look perfect but have a closer look.

clay is also very hard to photograph, Lee if you spay down the sculpt wih water before you snap a pic it will help catch the light better making it more 3D for us to see the shape better.

for the eyes i cut a small foam ball in half or some other type ball sitting around or at the cheapy store, if you use something else instead of clay it will help you shape the eyelids alot easer and quicker, especialy in that dificult area,,getting in there with tools..When i do eyes It pisses me off...LOL i mention this cause i see you did the eyes from clay and i know how hard that is to deal with I did it for years:)

again looking great so far man!!

Pete

thanks for the tips Pete, appreciate them alot. as i do all the help and things you guys pass on.

I did have trouble getting the eyes a decent shape etc, pity ive done them now hehehe. on his inner mouth where ive started the detail ( only place on head so far ) i find it hard to get the clay smooth, i think i remember someone sayin i needed to use lighter fluid, is that correct?

Im not going to try and replicate exactly detail for detail on this, as 1, i aint that talented so i dont think i can mimic it as i also dont have sizes etc and 2 itll have my own touch then.

hopefully have more pics tomorrow or tuesday.

Lee I meant working on the mouth, I've always left that to the last when building forms and blocking things out as it can end up unbalancing a whole sculpt. Plus it's a bugger to get at other forms when you're reaching over other parts but that's just me. Yes you can use lighter fluid or turps I believe...But be careful as these are very harsh on the clay...I use it sometimes but most times I use an alcohol torch to soften surfaces and smooth out....I also use talc for the last part of smoothing as it acts like a fine grade sanding paper to give you a really smooth finish.

I use small wooden balls for eye forms, and you're right using clay for eyes can be a pain as when you lay the lids over them they can deform and you end up doing stuff all over again.

One thing that I've found useful on some prosthetic scuplts with oil based clay, is when you heat it it stretches nice when you smooth it, and you can form some very natural organic burn scar tissue quite rapidly.

aahh o_O

im using chavant medium oil based clay, does the water thing still work for photos?

ill have to get some wooden balls me thinks

and tbh im not overly fussed aout making him totally/perfectly symetrical anyway, ever photoshopped ya own face then mirrord the left or right ? makes ya look weird o_O hehe

Water does work, just not as well on the medium grade clay. Use liighter fluid or naptha sparingly if you do, just brush it over the parts you want smoothing and let it do it's stuff and evapourate. Myself I rake the thing to buggery before any application of solvents to it. Big to small smoothing the surface with my fingers and raking again then repeating....It breaks the surface up nicely and means smoothing is less hassle when you do use solvents...I tend to sculpt under two nice poseable lamps as they keep the clay pliant enough to move about whilst sculpting without hving to get a heat gun on it.

Took a quick pic while the kids put tinsel on anything was wasnt moving.

although his nose/upper lip still needs alittle tweaking , it doesnt look as much in this pic, wish id known about those wooden balls mav o_O woulda saved me a hr yesterday hehehe.

anyway doesnt look like ive done much between the 2 latest pics but i fleshed out alot and done work onhis right side, which is what ill be working on over the next week or so, work permitting.

i may make the lower mandibles also, just to give me a better picture of what needs ripping off and redoing.

anyway i gota go, the cats not taking kindly to having tinsel on him, and i wont say where they tried to stick a candle o_O
