Re: WIP: HPotterOA Monster Book of Monsters!! Grrr!
I really want one of these books and it looks great! I usually like to collect props that I can use with my costumes. Should I be worried that I would break off the tentacles and tongue too easily if I were to carry it with me at con while wearing my Hogwarts school uniform?
Re: WIP: HPotterOA Monster Book of Monsters!! Grrr!
Thanks! The tencales/tongue are going to be soft, but I would worry about the teeth!! The upper jaw will be in resin. The teeh won't be sharpened, but will be pointy . . . a costuem snag is possible, but at a con, what isn't?
But I don't believe they used the animatronic version for anything in the final print of the film. I'm fairly certain that 98% of not 100% of what you see in the final cut is all CG.

Amazing work - love the direction this thing is taking. More photos, please! Also, can you put an apple or your hand or something in there for scale? Thanks!

Glad everyone's enjoying the sculpt! I'm finishing it up today, and will start casting tomorrow!! I'm pretty excited to start pulling these, not to mention that I've stayed within my time quotes! That's a big deal for me!!
The bottom of the sculpt is finished, along with the spine and right side.
Here's a shot of the bottom, more to come later tonight!
I'm looking forward to getting the light gray sealing coat on the clay, so the pictures will be a bit cleaner and more detailed. I also have to get the lights and such set up for real to take some solid pics for you guys.

Rhett,
Okay, there is one detail missing from your book, it was also missing from the Skele-Gro bottle... your signature! Seriously, these works of art should bear the mark of the artist that made them. Doesn't matter that it's not "Screen Accurate".
Re: WIP: HPotterOA Monster Book of Monsters!! Grrr!
Just a bit of touch ups here and there, but he's pretty much done. I mostly need to touch up the large tentacles up front, and just a bit more work on the teeth and eyes, but most of that work consists of gloss coating them before casting. SOmeone asked about the size, and I didn't have a Coke can handy . . .but just in case you have a ruler handy, these beast is 15x11x6 . . . i.e. BIG!
Watch out for those teeth!! **SNAP!**
and just for Dave, I might add a sig under the tounge. . .
Casting starts tomorrow, and the first will be ready by Friday!!! I'll be sending out emails to those who's books are coming due!! Whoot!
Re: WIP: HPotterOA Monster Book of Monsters!! Grrr!
WOW. You've outdone yourself! That thing looks great, and I can't wait to see how the casts turn out!!! Super job you've done with the sculpt. I'm very curious about the spongy/softer feel it will have.
Re: WIP: HPotterOA Monster Book of Monsters!! Grrr!
This is so absolutely amazing! They have one of these books "live" at Harry Potter World in Orlando, and yours looks better than theirs does!!! I hope to see the final painted version! Great job!
Re: WIP: HPotterOA Monster Book of Monsters!! Grrr!
Here's the results of Paint test #1 More to come . . .
Casting both of these in bubblegum pink, then adding the colors. The book is looking solid, but I'm not liking the brown i picked, so I've gone with a custom color, and willhave that up later. Then we ship the first ten!! And on time to boot!
