WIP East India Trading Co Box POTC 2&3 Jack Sparrow

Re: WIP East India Trading Company Box POTC 2&3

Thanks Mike.

Not had a lot of time to work on this last couple of days and won't have any time next few days either. Did re-draw the skirting. After giving my ref pics another going over, don't think I had it quite right on the cardboard mock-up.

Got the lock set. It is so tiny and cute!

On the SU box, you can see there's a lock in there, and on the front of the box is a hole that is the key hole though the key hole cover is missing.

So I am assuming that the strike plate is in the edge of the lid, though I have no pic of that area. I'm putting the plate on mine, so it will be a functioning lock.

I may never get off this slow boat to China and kick my procrastinating self into finishing the box I've started, but at least I can say I have inspired someone else to make one. :)

A couple of weeks ago I got an email from another Jack/POTC fan from my Jack pages wanting to discuss the making of the box. Two weeks later he's displaying a finished box and my nearly year old project is still doing shelf sitting.:(

I think he did a stellar job. He wasn't aiming for exact SA, but to make a box he could and would use. Here is a little blurb from him about his build and a collage picture. Click on the numbered links below the picture for a closer up look at the individual pics.....

I made mine from Wormy Chestnut as I notice possible worm tracks on the lid. I also dovetailed my sides(lid and box body, even tho they possibly didn't do theirs but with a finger joint. I squinted and tried to tell which application shown up best on the screen and just went with the dove tails(heck it's my box anyway). I also came up with a different version of the front skirt design than yours. If you like I will send you pics of the project.

I finished it up yesterday, used walnut stain and found brass nails. It has a fresh look to it other than the distressed one (movie wise), but it looks good. I found a good reference art for the logo and scaled it up to proper size, carbon papered (traced) it to the lid, cut it rough on my scroll saw, and finished it with mini files. To get the dark color in the logo I mixed flat black model paint in dark walnut stain. The paint gave it "stick" and the stain left it slightly transparent.
