I'm new here. Been sniffing around the scene for years. I've built model kits for nearly 20 years, but now I have a family and a five year old daughter, small delicate pieces and wandering hands make model building difficult. By building my own props (my first efforts will be customizing some star wars ep iii clone pilot helmets as maverick and goose for this year's supanova in Sydney) I can still use my skills but on larger kid friendly objects.
Best of all my daughter can share the love of movies I have passed onto her. Her eyes light up when she sees something from one of her favorite movies in the real world. Now I can make her little pieces of her favorite movies and give them to her. She will appreciate the effort that goes into them and maybe she will find a creative spark within herself. Creation And Creativity are the greatest gift one can give to their kids. It fosters dedication, an eye for detail and a sense of satisfaction. Plus it'll be rad having my own top gun clone helmet in the mixing room
I will now get off my soapbox
