Who is this "Sidkit" and why don't I own his Mal Reynolds pistol?

can someone post screencaps from the show of the pistol?
isnt the lanyard look thingy on the grip and the trigger guard supposed to be silver

Don't have a screencap handy, but in the 'Official Companion' book (Volume 2) there's a pic on p. 137 that shows Mal, Jayne, and Zoe with their guns drawn.
It's taken from a low angle and it clearly shows Mal's trigger guard and grip frame (bottom) to be silver.

Has anybody considered brass tape for covering thier resin Mal pistols.
I used aluminum tape on my PPG and it came out shiny (excuse the expresion):lol

No offense, but that doesnt sound like a good idea..... first there are just TOOO many complex angles on the gun to get good coverage, not to mention wherever the seams would fall would be fugly
I say for this partifuclar one, since its ALREADY metal, might as well go with that, and blue it... OR plating...

I agree on the sidkit, I was refering to the resin mal pistol.

I have my resin casting of the original, but as much as I LOVE it, I I just keep looking at it now, like it my less favorite child, because I know my favorite son will be coming home in a few weeks. :lol

OK, quick update....and a preliminary pic. I've decided to go with an ordinary gun blue color for my Mal pistol. I know it's inaccurate to the show but I've been a gun nut the better part of my life and I have never seen a modern firearm made entirely out of brass. So, I decided to go the blued steel route rather than try to replicate the browned brass route.

This is after several applications of the bluing solution. It's by no means finished as I need to oil it liberally to help cure the bluing, but so far, I'm very happy with it.

I am REALLY up in the air about how to finish mine..
Im FULLY prepared to have mine sent off and brass plated, however, im with you man, I have NEVER seen a firearm AT ALL thats made of brass.... the only time it was really used was like on the older '51 Colt navy's with the brass frame... but certainly not the BODY of the gun...
so that got me thinking maybe i could do a VARIATIOn and make it more "propably" than accurate, and have the triggerguard/grip frame brass plated.... that would make a more realistic looking weapon...

SOOOO many options..... maybe ill have it figured out by the time i get the kit...

question tho.... how did YOU sand/polish the peices?

Looks great so far!! I think that finish will look fantastic after doing some of more subtle weathering.

Oh, and for anyone that can't see the right side of the post, what I do is click, highlight and drag the cursor over to the right. Of course, you have to highlight back to the left to go back to the original view. This is for people who don't have the horizontal scroll bar, that is.

i think itd be great that EVERYONE who gets one of these kits , keeps their pictures in THIS thread! no need to start a million others...

but id like to hear some options from folks....

Has anyone thought about doing a "As First Built" version of this gun?
I mean it was cool to do that with the EpIV Obiwan lightsaber, sure it wasnt cannon, but what a cool saber right?
so im thinking.... why not do that with this gun?
whats folks opinion on that?

And I don't see that finish as innacurate. There are some super clear pics in the Official Companion book, and to me it really appears that the pistol has an overall blued finish with the worn brass "showing through."

I came home to find my kit on the front door. I just unpacked it. I was surprised to see the main gun body pre-assembled and stamped a low # of 024, but even more surprised that I'm missing the top gun body rail piece! :cry

I've emailed Sid through CCNow, so hopefully I'll get the MIA piece quickly. Here's a pic of what I did get thou.

I was going to ask for an extra magazine, actually, hopefully it won't cost too much more.

A few extra magazines would be nice, would be good practice on my Smithy 3in1 but I'm not sure what the best brass or bronze would be to use.

I'll post an update once I hear back on getting the missing piece. I just got done going through the trash for the 5th time just to be sure & came up with nada on that top piece.

The plan is the Blue Wonder finish on the main gun body and barrel & the PermaBlue for the trigger & handle frame for a steel looking finish there.

I've got some leather around so hopefully I'll be able to make a decent holster/belt using the pictures posted from Philippes rig that he sold. I need to find some good screen caps of Mal's wallet if there are any & get a repo set of the the ship owner documents. In the end, I'll have my dad build a 2nd curio cabinet & I want this one to sit 1/2 in the holster, the QMx pistol on a stand beside it with the money pack fanned out of the wallet, ship doc's & hopefully the QMx Serenity model when it comes out.
