OMG, I have to have one of these guns. I have seen SO MANY props in this price range that I drooled over, and retched for my wallet, but in the end, didn't buy them. However, this one, I can't pass on. This is my favorite gun, and for some reason I can't explain, as much as I love this version, I hate the movie version, so I will certainly be going with this one.
As for the finish. (before I say this, I just want to say I know I'm in the minority here, and I don't care.) I know the real gun was MADE of brass. And, I know, that where the real thing shows wear, you can in fact see brass. However, I have looked at SO many pics of this gun, and it has never had an over all brassy, bronze , or brown look to me AT ALL. The parts of it that are still "finished" or whatever you want to call it (witch is a lot of this version) , look very much steely. A dark gray, or slightly blue-ish-black look. Most likely do to what every finish they put on it.
I know many of you might think I'm nuts, but all I know, is what I see. Plus, I hate the brassy, brown bronzy look. I think that's one of the reasons I hate the movie version, because it is certainly brassy over all.
I'll be using Puma Blue, or Alma black. (I've used alumna black, on my dinex's before, and got a really great, very dark gray finish, because it's not pure aluminum.)
Oh, BTW, Thanks a lot guys, for wasting my time with, like 4 pages, of useless #$%^, I hope you had fun.

I agree regarding the BRASS (shouted) finish.
I just posted my pics of my Mal pistol in the Firefly weapons collection thread where you can see the brass showing thru' the "worn" finish, but not overwhelmingly BRASS BRASS BRASS!

I just want to say, for the record, that I LOVE it when racprops posts to the RPF. Few things bring a smile to my face, but his posts are always one of them.

I am a happy going propmaker who walked the sets of Star Trek and others and had meals with the classic cast and others and have a BUNCH of my work in films.
I have had a great 30 years doing this.
So you can not really bring me down.
IF my only crimes you can fuss about are misspelling and typos, well, what does that say about you??

i say the next person who posts a thread saying they got their sidkit and DOESNT post pictures...... we BAN them FOR LIFE!!! lol lol
Cmon guys! itll be a few weeks before i can order, give us a taste of what to expect!
OH as for the color.... i plan fully to use the plum brown and oil it heavily.... i did this with an Ep4 obiwan saber grenade and it gave it a DARK chocolate look.... this can then be buffed a bit to give highlighted areas.... i think the key here is to still give it a METAL look..
im thinking of skipping the sanding and demel tool wire brush route and just throw the parts on a felt buffing wheel.... thoughts on that?

I would worry that "a few weeks" is too long for you to get in on the limited edition run...unless he ends up making it more than the 250 kits he says currently. I e-mailed him about a week after he posted the link on the fireflyfans.net forums (my only point of reference, since I'm not sure when EXACTLY he started selling them) and he said he had 140 kits left, and at the moment was selling an average of 5 kits a day. That was a week ago yesterday.
In the prop forum:
"Hey guys, this is something new I'm going to be finishing. I'll post about what this costs and how you can obtain one in the jy!"
