Who is this "Sidkit" and why don't I own his Mal Reynolds pistol?

I would worry that "a few weeks" is too long for you to get in on the limited edition run...unless he ends up making it more than the 250 kits he says currently. I e-mailed him about a week after he posted the link on the fireflyfans.net forums (my only point of reference, since I'm not sure when EXACTLY he started selling them) and he said he had 140 kits left, and at the moment was selling an average of 5 kits a day. That was a week ago yesterday.

Oh no!!!!
now im really worried!

Honestly I wouldn´t worry too much about this kit selling out. Even license holders tend to rerelease limited products slightly altered if they made enough $$$ with the first run, so why should Sidkit not produce more kits? Interesting to see the words “20 More Kit Produced” (regarding another product) on his front page, simply adding 20 kits to a run he advertised as a “LIMITED EDITION Of 250 kits ONLY”… ;)

If the Mall Reinholds :)angel) kits sell that good I don´t see a reason why he should stop after 250, especially not being bound to any contracts.

Personally I don´t care for LE numbers and would have prefered a kit without any numbers stamped to it anyway.

The biker scout pistol has been on sale for a good time and the edition number is the same and they are listed on ebay fairly often too i'm assuming it is him listing them as the location is in italy on the listings

I had a quick go with the BC Plumb Brown on the underside of the top rail of my SK and it came out grey. I also tried Carr's Al black and Carr's Brass black - these gave a more browny appearance.
From left to right is Carr's Al black - BC Plumb Brown - Carr's Brass black.

OK THATS IT!
i say the next person who posts a thread saying they got their sidkit and DOESNT post pictures...... we BAN them FOR LIFE!!! lol lol

Cmon guys! itll be a few weeks before i can order, give us a taste of what to expect!

I'd like to say that I posted my pic back on page three! I showed how the phillipes wood grips compare to the sidkit grips for those wanting real wood grips on their metal Mal.

Argh, I can't wait to get my kit, the pictures of it just look so shiny! :eek

Pennausamike: have you done anymore work on it since that picture?

OK, in an effort to restore my good name, here's a shot of what I got from Sid, in the condition I got it in (well, except that I removed it from the bubble wrap and such). What I mean by this is, if it's assembled in the photo, that's how it came out of the box.

For those that have the sidkit pistol, are there any major seams or flash to clean up?

There's a little flash here and there that needs to be cleaned up, but otherwise, I find it to be a very clean kit. I imagine that most of what I'm seeing will come off in the sanding and finishing phase without a lot of extra effort from me.

Um i see that the grips are on........ tell me he didnt GLUE them on?
because thats one of the first things to come off...
is the rest of it already glued together?

also i see that orange thing on the end of the barrel, is that removable?
yeh yeh i know the law about having an orange marker on a fake gun, but it ruins the look of the prop......

Nope, nothing's glued together that I can see. So, it's not problem to lose the grips.

I don't have a pair of pliers right here so I can't try to pop out the orange plug. But, there appears to be a piece in the parts baggie that fits in the muzzle end. Based on that and everything else not being glued yet, I have to say that I'm 99% certain you can just pull the plug out.

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention: The parts all weigh in at 2 lbs 14.1 oz. So, it's definitely got some heft to it.

anyone thought of brass/bronze plating theirs?

this is something im definantly considering.......

anyone else?

Mine came out of the box just like IronFist's did. I was able to remove the orange plug, it's not glued in, just a snug fitting piece of plastic, and yes, the parts baggie contains a faux barrel end that takes the place of the orange plug.

I just can't say enough about how PHUCKING cool this kit is. It is SO worth the cash. If you don't have the cash now, sell some stuff, and raise the cash because this is the coolest Mal pistol ever made with the exception of the original prop, and the uber expensive metal Mal replica. I can't envision a world in which the QMx vaporware gun will be anywhere near as cool as this one.

I went out today and tracked down the sandpaper, dremel buffing wheel, and epoxy needed to complete the kit. I already have the bluing stuff I ordered.

BTW - One other impressive thing....the grips are SOLID resin, not hollow. I was slightly worried about that, but was pleasantly surprised when I took my grips off. Also, Siderio added a rectangular block onto the inside of the solid grips that rests inside the hollow backstrap area so that the grips will not move. So, the grips are essentially secured at the bottom by the blocks, the middle by the screws, and the top where they fit into the receiver.

please let us know how the blueing kit works...
im sorta of the mind to have mine plated....
yes i know it will cost alot, but i think getting it brass plated and THEN aging it will look closer to the screen used prop......... thoughts?

OH!
can someone post screencaps from the show of the pistol?
isnt the lanyard look thingy on the grip and the trigger guard supposed to be silver
