Who else watched Predators yesterday?

That was :lolfunny, and it kinda resembles your avatar^:lol

I'm a Tholian baby. I've got more limbs than a Predator, I thrive in hotter temperatures than a Predator, I make the best silk in the galaxy and I can spin webs on energy..... IN SPACE!

I knew that brotha^ just looked a little similiar is all:thumbsup Shame the Tholians did'nt get to have more battles in TOS.

Wow, that original concept Predator is awful. Looks like a runaway from Power Rangers.

Crazy, isn't it? And a little scary, considering what might have been. Like Tom Selleck playing Indiana Jones.

And if I recall correctly, Stan WInston Studio was called in for the second design, and did not contribute to the first. Again - if I recall correctly.

The story off the 2 disk was that Cameron and Winston were on a plane together and Cameron saw a few of the rough sketches and mentioned how could it'd be to see something with mandibles and the rest was Stan.

When I watched Predators in the theater, a part of me was hoping that the other alien creature that the group tries to kill by using the doctor as bait was going to be based on this model. Would have gotten a kick out of that.

You know, I don't think it was that terribly far, off, I wonder if it was the inspiration?

You know, the more I think about the movie, I do wonder if anyone in the production had seen Pandorum and thought about how Fishburn's character is alomst a line for line, trap for trap duplicate of the old, black, survivor/scavenger character in that movie. or if they jsut said screw it, how many crossover fans will there be with this other sci-fi action movie? They'll never make a connection.

I KNEW I had just seen someone just like his character!!! When watching I got the strangest sense of deja vu and now I know why! Good call on the Pandorum connection!

Clichés, scenes copied directly from other films, stale and over-used fight sequences, numerous plot-holes. (Just how many opportunities to get a Pred mask did they pass up?) and plot 'twists' that you could see coming a mile off. As my brother put it, it looked like the whole film was made to sell the inevitable computer game.

Can't believe I missed this thread ... I'm a huge Predator fan so I took off from work last week Friday to check it out.

I loved it! It was far better than I had expected but that could be a result of the AVP movies not exactly scratching me where I itch if you know what I'm saying ...

I know there were concerns with Brody as the lead action star here but he held his own and I bought into the character. I had no real qualms with the rest of the cast - not even Fishbourne to be honest.

Some scattered thoughts - I felt as if the 3 super Predators got taken out rather quickly. I wasn't really keen on the design of the Predator-dogs but it was great seeing OH back on the big screen again. I'm very happy that Nimrod and Rodriguez went with practical f/x wherever they could. I geeked out big time after the team had killed that other alien on the planet because I thought for certain that was the original Predator design from the first film (shown a few posts up).

I did like the design of Mr. Black (or the "Berzerker" or whatever the collectibles community is calling it right now). My understanding going into the film was that these 3 Predators messed with their genetic structure (think steroids) to be super hunters - or something a long those lines. Being a fanboy it was hard to stay completely spoiler free but that's one of the points I read online for the radical difference in design between OH and Mr. Black. This idea was never explored in the movie though so either it ended up on the cutting room floor or perhaps it was an outdated idea from the original Rodriguez script. Anyone know for sure?

Wasn't it GREAT hearing Long Tall Sally over the credits! Great touch.

BTW - I'm fairly certain that if you scroll the credits of P1 you'll see Van Damme's name listed in the credits under stunt men.

From IMDB, (if you accept it);

The alien creature that pursues Edwin (Topher Grace) through the jungle during the ambush scene is a slightly modified version of the original, abandoned Predator design from 1987.

I loved it. Was it perfect NO, was it a great film. NOT REALLY. But it's the best sci-fi film I have seen in a long, long, time. I've seen so many of the sci-fi films people went, on, and on about (like Avatar) and saw why some may like them, but didn't care for them much my self. (mostly because I HATE too much CGI)

I did really like the first Iron Man (and was ok with the second one) But I think of them more as super hero movies, then sci-fi. (they are supposed to be cheesy, they are based on comics.)

This was just a refreshing film for me.

Sure I saw the biggest plot twist coming from the minute he showed up on screen. (but I wont spoil it for others. I'll just say the "70's" are so over. :lol) And I found most of the other twists, just about as see through.

Sadly my biggest complaint was about the props. Those guns where a joke. They where comically over sized. They all might as well ben walking around with bazookas. Too many films have gone back to the idea, that that the bigger the gun, the cooler it is. I like big guns (M41 Pulse rifle, etc.) but with in reason, and I think the "noisy cricket" was brilliant in MIB, and I wish more people got that kind of thing. Heck even the P-90s on SG-1 weren't that big, for the punch they pack, and they look really, really cool. The guns in this movie (and lets face it, outside of the pred gear, those were the only real props, other then the Docs blade, and the katana the other dude had.) Where way over the top, and looked like airsofts gone wrong. (cheep, and plasticy.)

On a side note, anyone else notice anything about the dead guy who set the traps, chest? ;)

Will I rush back to the theater this week to see it. NO, but if I see another one of those overly CGI, pieces of @$#% like Transformers, I will run to see this movie again, this summer, just to wash the bad film out of my head.
