Yes I did make my own template. The picture from Marve.com was perfect. The other template is OK but you see the bottom three pieces are cut diagonally whereas the template in the other thread are cut straight. I also widened the top of my template to compensate for curvature. I have already embossed it to a layer of pigskin that is very thin and stretchy as well as stained with various brown stains. I now have to add the edging with simple stitching. I'm using 1-2mm calf cowhide for the edging.

After a long 40 hour work week we are at the weeks end! Put a little time in the workshop. This is the workshop in a state of chaos this time of year every year!!


Stained the holsters. Still need to figure out how to attach them to the pants without sewing them into the fabric. I also still need to add the edging. It is cut and stained but now the hand sewing sets me back.



Three coats of acrylic sealer on the helmet! I also added the braided material to the breather filters. Not the best look I wanted but it will do. There's no turning back now!!! or It be to late to alter course!! Tomorrow pads, LEDs, and lenses and the bucket is DONE!!!


These wonderful headphones arrived today! Sony MDR-4s. They sound great for a pair of 33 year old headphones!


Sanded the Gamora sword a bit! Giving it a foam edge and all the intricate decorations in the handle.


Made some progress on the kids costumes. Rocket's pants and Groot head!


These just arrived Thursday! Now I need to give them an acetone vapor bath and once again the sanding and painting process all over again!

Starlord helmet is FINALLY done!!! Sealed in arcylics, lenses added, LEDs added, and padding added!!! Still need to add a longer wire so I can store the battery pack in my jacket OR make it detachable.

Two hours later and I have this! This was going to be the easiest part of this costume. Next going to stain, glue, punch and hand stitch.

can you see out the eyes...??....what color did you use for the gold/copper/bronze on the helmet....I was thining of using rub/buff copper?.....

Well let's see! Haven't been online in awhile due to Friday October 31 deadline! Running out of time so having to take shortcuts only to come back around and fix things!

Finished the Starlord belt
Finished the Gamora belt
Finished the Baby Groot costume
Finished painting quad blasters
Finished hip holsters and attached them to pants with snaps
Not enough time to clean up 3D print of rocket boosters so they went right to paint.
Going to see if I can crank out Starlord boots in three days!!

Pictures coming as soon as I have a chance to take them!!!

Well when the time comes to get into costume and go to Disney's Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyland it all comes together!! Did not get to finish everything but still got accolades from people, cast members, and even Captain American himself!! We couldn't go more than 10 feet and be asked to pose for pictures!

Final jacket mods that were made before Halloween:
Rivets on the front going down the zipper. I'll replace the zipper eventually with a SA version.
Rivet as well as the valve and leather embossing
Right sleeve grommets, tab, and elastic; may replace the elastic with something more SA.
Rivet on the collar right side


Brass buckle and elastic; again will replace the elastic and sew down the shoulder tabs
Left shoulder insignia and leather embossing
Left shoulder tab, grommets, and elastic; replace elastic once again and try to blend the tabs.

Sleeve with angle cut; need to sew the edge.
Rivets on back of jacket
Again sleeve angle cut; still needs to be sewn.
Rivets on back of jacket
Zipper attachment
Final jacket; weathered nicely after it was rained upon

It has been awhile since I've been here! Now that deadlines are looming I am back to work on everything and anything GotG!

I am baby Groot!
I tried to cover as much detail as possible from paint, growth including on left hand and left shoulder, vines, and the growth on top of the head as well. Although the pot is slightly different from the film I like the look of it; this is the Ikea pot.
