Where/How can I have an object laser scanned?

As I understand, Gentle Giant will scan anything or anyone and give you a disc of it for $5,000.
Not cheap, yes, but that's the first fer sure I know of.

That part probably cost 2K

It has to be scanned, cleaned up some, then turned into a CAM model and then milled on a cnc machine.

If you wanted it just scanned probably close to $3-500.

I had a quote recently for a rifle handle,

As a very rough guide I’d say Scanning $400

Modeling and modifying $650

Machining Aluminum part $1,000 - $2,000 (as a ball park.)

It depends how accurate you want the scan, .0, .00, .000 etc

If the shape is sort of simple, could probably just have someone enter it into autocad etc with a caliper.

Or even have a professional measure it? I'm trying to learn about this world of manufacturing, I'll be following this thread :)

Scan it again and again. Buy a good webcam with HD resolution, not enhanced upscaled HD. Use a green laser and a cheap laser line level lens. Patch it up with Meshlabs.

Buy the full licenses or use the trial version of Zbrush 3.1

Import the obj model into Zbrush. Divide the model a few times. Store a Morph Target. Retopologize the mesh. Project the original mesh details back onto the new retopo'ed mesh.

Use the sculpting tools to clean it up and restore the missing details. Export it as obj.

What is the prop? I could do the Zbrush stuff for you possibly.
