Whats the piece on the Vader ROTJ saber where...

Just went up and picked up a two pack for $7 (I didnt want to wait for my ebay one). I had to go 3 places to find them though. Got it at Pep Boys. Amazing - looks perfect!

Yep! I will get up pictures tonight! Although, its not as accurate as yours mainly because I used a steel tube instead of a Graflex...

I used to make them out of regular chrome plated tubes. It was very difficult. Looking forward to seeing your pictures.

OK - here's some pics of mine - the perspective on the first one makes it look curved (I swear, its not!)... there I a couple things I need to change: I need to find a diamond knurled thumbscrew, I need to drill the holes by the grips, it needs a better d-ring attachment (but not bad attempt for a metal one in about 5 minutes, eh?), and I still need to make the emitter rod. No original or replica Graflexes were harmed in the making of this saber :D :

Nice job. So this is just a sink tube? How did you make all the proper holes to make it look like a Graflex tube? How are the allen head scews attached?

Great looking sabers!

I'd like to point out that while the stem valve is a great substitute, it's not 100% accurate, at least not the ones pictured in this thread. Next to something custom machined it's a great close enough piece though.

I've looked at all the original prop pictures and these are closer than any custom part I've seen to date, and I've seen alot of theml. For one, these are chrome plated like the original prop and I have not seen any custom mades that are chrome plated, they are either aluminum or stainless steel. Also, these are threaded unlike all the customs out there. Kenny's are the closest I've seen, but again not chrome plated and the one that is threaded is not threaded like these and I think not like the original. But who knows. So unitl the part is correctly 100% identified these are the closest I've seen.

Years ago another RPF member and myself did a small number of accurate ones based on photo scaling I did. I think Ken's most recent ones are also based off my info as I think I gave it to him as well. True, they were not chromed and didn't have a threaded shaft, but they were machined to the correct dimensions in aluminum which can be polished very close to chrome. Also they had the flat section on the shaft as well. As for the threaded idea, none of the MOM pictures show that the shaft was for sure threaded, or if it was it wasn't necessarily all the way to the "button".

I am not saying the valve stem isn't a good close enough item, just that it's not 100% accurate. The real one could well be a valve stem (I agree that the valve stem is the closest real world item anyone has ever found), but the style might no longer exist.

I figure since I didnt even use a real Graflex, the valve stem was more than close enough... the allen head screws are attached by there being a pvc pipe running through the middle. And I didnt use a sink tube - strangely enough, it was a steel fitting off of an air hockey table at the school I worked at. They were throwing the table away, and I though "hmmm, a 1.5" tube - this would make a mighty fine custom Luke or Vader saber someday." Then it sat in the trunk of my car for 2 years, LOL. And now, has met its destiny... like a catapillar into a butterfly - like a boy into a man - like a-... you get the idea...

I used to use PVC pipe to screw the screws into too, works like a charm. :)

I also used pvc pipe in the center except I also put metal conduit in the center of the pvc. Then I moved to a solid aluminum rod in the center, to now I use a thicker aluminum sleeve in the center.

no it was part of a air regulator on a scuba tank....wadayada id it years ago.

IIRC, thats what it was believed to be until the valve stem was found. No existing part of a scuba tank was ever found to positively confirm thats where the original part came from. The valve stems from the auto parts store are the closest found to date.
