Re: What's on your workbench?

Only just sarted making props and this is my 1st attempt so far- a Farscape laser pistol!

Re: What's on your workbench?

I'm building a Momus Design 3-axis CNC router in hopes that when completed, it will promote more props to "on my workbench" status. :lol

It's got roughly a 16" x 16" (or 40cm x 40cm) cutting area. Not huge, but definitely big enough for my purposes right now.

Base/enclosure, about 75% complete:

View of the right side, which will hold the power supply and electronics:

Some of the metal components (disk drives, batteries, and dartboard are not actually machine parts :D )

If anyone's got a hankering for a fairly inexpensive (and labor-intensive) homebuilt CNC rig, I highly recommend this one. I've got less than $700 into it including all the electronics and drive components. Well worth the $20 for the plans, and comes with the awesome assistance of the designer if you need to ask him about anything. I really wish I could remember which person here mentioned these plans in a thread earlier this year, because he or she has my eternal thanks. :)

Re: What's on your workbench?

been working on my Mandalorian assasin project, here is the helmet wired up with a flip down visor. The red led's come on automatically when the visor is all the way forward. This is going to take a backseat after thanksgiving so I ca get started on my .45 longcolt from Trigun scratch build.View attachment 75239

Re: What's on your workbench?

The momus cnc plans are the best plans I've ever seen. Very well documented. You'll probably need a drill press to get it done in a reasonable amount of time. And there's a ton of tapped holes. The finished machine is capable of machining aluminum, but not at high speeds. I have no affiliation with momus, just very impressed with the plans. I abandoned mine in favor of a converted milling machine, but I'm going back to the momus designs for my 3D printer.

Thanks Dorian.
Hopeing to finish it by the end of the week, will get pics up as soon as its done!
Good luck in getting your projects done just the way you want 'em every one.

Aha! Drew, it was you! :lol I just went and found the thread where you'd mentioned the Momus machine way back in February. Thanks a million for the tip...that one post immediately ended a few months' worth of hemming and hawing on my part over what machine design to start out with. :)

Re: What's on your workbench?

Hehehe if I could fit in it I'd be doing that as we speak!

Heh, I sometimes forget I'm on the smaller-scale side of things. Only 5'7" on my best of days, so cramming into a little kart would alllllmost be a possibility for me.

You going to have any updates to that project and restoration? I'd be quite interested in following along

Yeah I'm 1m95 so converted that would be 6'5" never gonna fit in that car :p

Yeah sure if there's an interest I'll put up a thread here :) For now I can only work in the weekends so updates will be slow. But perhaps some people who are eager for updates will make me work harder and faster :D

Ok just went into the shop, the basecoat is 4170 and the trim is 347. The scope on top is held on with mags and has a mirco swith under the bottom.
