Re: What's on your workbench?

Oh what the hey LOL

Currently working on finishing my Sonic Screwdriver (If you want to see something funny click 1911...WTF???) All I need to do now is paint the body a different color, touch up the silver parts, gloss cote it and blam. Done :).

Other than that I'm not working on much :(

Re: What's on your workbench?

Here's some pics of my still in progress Endor rifle. I've been doing a lot of fiddly crap and filling/sanding (which I HATE!).

The barrel is all together, minus the front part with the site, which I left off in the pic. The "spot welds" are done with JB Weld to hide the bolts running through the tubes and replicate the original.

I used Lab Metal to fill about 1/8" on the ends of the tubes. So it will look and feel like metal. If you're not familiar with Lab Metal, it's a putty with metal in it. It looks like dark gray until you sand it and then it looks like metal.

I still have no idea of the exact M16/AR15 they used for the lower receiver so I got the closest one I could find. That meant having to add the extra detail (which is the bare metal, made with Lab Metal too) and mag fence. I still have to shape the left side where the small piece transitions into the big piece. Right now it's just sitting there so if it looks crooked, it isn't attached. It may not be perfect, but I'm calling it close enough because I'm getting tired of working on this! :lol

Nice! That lab metal might be perfect for the 'weld spots'!

Re: What's on your workbench?

I think that maybe if you thinned the Lab Metal a little and then stuck it in a syringe that would let you dispense the right amount, it could work. On the other hand, the JB weld came out, and dried glossy so I think I prefer that.

Re: What's on your workbench?

Here is what's on my workbench right now. I am a big Batman fan and thought a mini-bat signal would be cool. So here is my take on that so far. It is all PVC parts. I plan on adding 32 leds from a flash light I got from Harbor Frieght. Not sure which emblem to use, the traditional or the Begins one.

Right now I'm working on 2 sets of clone armor for friends. One just needs to be strapped together and finish the belt. All the painting is done. The other is in the trimming stages. I'm making some wall hanging star wars helmets...like those comedy and tragedy masks. I should have some pictures of those by the end of the week. And finally, I need to make my ArtPrize 2011 entry...two 10' tall butterflies out of metal. Those don't need to be finished until September, so I've got a little time.

Re: What's on your workbench?

Had a hard drive crash recently, and my "projects" folder kinda took a hit. A lot of my earlier stuff and some of the recent stuff is gone, so I need to snap some more pics. For now though, here is my row of helmets I'm working/procrastinating on.

Modified Hasbro Clone, Fett/Mando Pep, Green Ranger Pep, RC Pep (looks huge, but will be smaller when rounded off), and a CW Clone Pep.

I've been looking at a ton of Stormtrooperguy's photos and I'm amazed at what he has done with a hasbro helmet as a base. I'm just going to go with the plain AOTC style for now.

The Fett Pep is coming along nicely, though I'm going to have to do some major modification to get the back symmetrical. It was only my second Pep project so it came out kind of lopsided. I'm also going to have to make the 'ears' from scratch.

The Green Ranger has major symmetry issues with the cheeks. It's just a matter of sanding and glassing each side until they are even. Not a big deal, just a lot of work.

The RC helmet is a very basic shape, though the images on each of the facets tricks the eyes into thinking otherwise. It will mostly be a base to sculpt the rest of the details on.

And the Clone Wars pep, I was very impressed with. I thought it was a very straight forward build. I think it'll look very nice once finished.

I'm also working on some jedi comms. Those suckers are a pain to cast, but thanks to the baby powder trick they have been coming out pretty well. I made five or six that I'm working on all at once right now, and I'll post some snaps once once I'm a bit further along.

Without wasting space, i can say, and wonder if anyone else feels the same way, I have far too many and varied projects on the go. I begin one with entusiasm and can't help but put it on the back burner when a new idea hits me!

Soon there will be noting on my bench because it will be upside down on a flat bed going to my new shop. :)
