a custom 1/6 figure head sculpted in baked super sculpey? If I want to cast it in resin? Any help is much appeciated!

You can do a really simple RTV rubber mould quite inexpensively.

Glue the head to a small circle of dowel wider than the neck.

Cut out a circle of thick card stock allowing at least 5mm and not more than 10mm around the whole circumfrence of the head.

Create a card tube allowing 10mm of clearance above the top of the head.

Mix your RTV rubber making sure to add enough catalyst.

If you have access to a de-gasser, then degass the rubber pour to the top of the head and degass again.

Top up to the top of the mold.

If you do not have a degasser, brush on a "beauty layer" of rubber making sure to get right into the eye sockets, ears etc.

Make sure that you superglue the dowel to the bottom of the mold case (it will probably float if not!!!)

Top up with rubber pouring from a high distance of 18" or so to disperse air bubbles.

leave to set.

I then cut a seam line down the back of the mold until I get to the base of the neck and stop.

Casts can be pushed out from the top of the mold as you have not made it too thick.

Mold should only weigh about 250g!

Hope that helps.

Or...

if you only need one cast use latex.

Glue the head to the dowel as above.

Glue the dowel to the card as above.

Start brushing on a layer of latex.

Leave to get "tacky"

Brush on another layer.

repeat the steps above until you have a skin about 3 or 4mm thick.

Use soap on the mold and slip off like a ski-mask.

Mold should be good for about 15 casts if looked after.

This is a much cheaper option - I'm just used to having RTV on-tap!
