What was the most recent GREAT movie that you saw?

Savior with Dennis Quaid. It's older, but for me, it was one of the best movies I have ever seen. It puts the atrocities committed during the Bosnian war under a light and puts a human face to them. Believe it or not, despite the content, it has a great story and even better ending.

Most recent films I've seen that were much better than I thought they would be John Wick, Tusk, and Birdman.

Your going to laugh but I watched Alien just 2 days ago. Now here is the funny thing, I don't know if I have ever actually watched it before? For sure I have seen the classic parts but the whole thing hmm not sure. Needless to say I loved it and came straight on here to look up nostromo jackets etc lol. I have had the box set for years but have never opened it. I happened to watch it by trawling lists of 50 greatest movies etc and cherry picking from that. So just as I will cherry pick from this thread I recommend doing the same.

I would honestly say Kingsman. No, it won't win any awards, but man it was fun movie. I never felt bored, the acting was well done, the special effects were good, the fight scenes were well choreographed. Before that was probably Guardians. I haven't had a chance to watch Birdman or Imitation Game yet so one of those could end up at the top of the list.

For right now I am going to go with John Wick. That's one of the baddest ass action flicks I have seen in a long time.

Tough question.
I say "That was GREAT!" after watching lots of movies, but 'one-of-the-best-movies-of-all-time' great...
Nothing recent really comes to mind.
My current movie crush, though, is "Blue Crush" (pun not intended).
I'd never seen it before, it was in my local RedBox, I said to myself "Michelle Rodriguez in a bikini? How bad can it be?"
I was expecting a gooey schlock-fest, but was pleasantly - actually, excitedly - surprised.
The cinematography is MINDBLOWING.
And the sappy love story side-plot isn't annoying at all - it's handled quite well, I thought.
I can't stop renting it. I've watched it half-a-dozen times now.

Reasons "Blue Crush" is great:
1) Michelle Rodriguez in a bikini.
2) Kate Bosworth in a bikini.
3) The story is actually really good, and the climax is epic.
4) The cinematography is AMAZING.
5) Michelle Rodriguez in a bikini.

Ooooh, Outsourced is a good one. I'd seen it before but just caught The Station Agent again. Just saw Nightcrawler last night and was blown away.

It's a shame for a movie fan like me to admit, but I kind of dug the third act. I liked the idea that Pinbacker not only survived the years he was stranded, but that he snuck onto Icarus 2 without anyone noticing.

I don't agree with Jeyl often but I'm in agreement on Sunshine, I love the movie including the third act.

I would also say Dredd is a great movie. The lack of a huge budget didn't hurt it in the slightest.

I watched Gravity not that long ago and thought it was very well done as well.
