What the hell is going on with MR?

Over on the rebelscum forum, I saw these pics posted.

Now if these are real MR promotional material, then MR has some explaing to do.

Almost non of the pictures shown here belong to MR

The Luke V2 is a parks saber (I think that this specific image was lifted from Hez's web cite a long time ago).

The Ki-adi mundi saber looks like a Larbel.

The Mara Jade saber looks like a Larbel also, and isn't that saber design the property of Jeff Parks?

And the biker scout blaster looks like Cliff's

Anyone want to claim the bowcaster?

Is MR just steeling pictures of products made by other people and use them in their own promotions without notice?

They did this the first time around too. they have used others pics until their products were ready. I am not sure if the owners can do anything about it.

MR has in the past taken shots from other web sites to use in their promotional material, not unussual.
The Parks saber was designed for Lucas licensed material and probably falls under their ownership legally now. Its interesting to thinks about...

I will honestly be getting the obi and if the yavin medal is cheap enough one of those as well. Surprising to see them.

If MR is using these images without permission, that sounds to me like a pretty lousy way to do buisness. First off they are steeling images from other people's web cites and using them to sell their product. Secondly, the images that they are using for promotion look nothing like what buyers will actually recieve.

I have no idea if it's still the case, but "Larbel" has worked for MR for years from what I've been told. I'm not sure I'd get worked up about them using photos from someone who works for them.

The more interesting thing about all this is the products. I still don't have a decent Obi-Wan saber, and missed out on the Yavin medal. Whoohooo.

Not to defend MR or anything, But that is promotional material for retailers, not meant to be seen by the public. In essance, a 'Here is what We are thinking of selling next year. These pictures will give you an idea of what they could be.'

Nothing is set in stone, and nothing is 100% for sure.

The Mara Jade is a Parks. You can tell by the EL switch on the side.

Yeesh, I hope they don't honestly plan on making a V2 saber that looks remotely like that.

Sort of scrapping the bottom of the barrel now on SW.

MR always has and always will borrow pics from us propsters for their own personal use.......to aid them in selling their products. They have the permission of Uncle George who owns all the likenesses of his intellectual property: Star Wars.

We can bitchmoanpiss&gripe all we want, but ultimately, it's gonna continue to happen.

We may as well just accept it............take joy in the fact that MR (and LFL) used our fine photos and just take it as a compliment. There isn't a bloody thing we can do about it. If it resembles something Star Wars........it technically belongs to George. That's the bottom line. Is it wrong for a company making that much dough to not just get off their rumps and take a couple of their own photos??? I think so, but what do I know???

Dave :(

It would be surprising to see the Yavin medal sell for 200 given it retailed much lower with the limited number and plaque. Kind of wondering on that one.

Wrong, regardless of the content of the picture, the picture itself (void of content) is copyright "YOU" and unless it falls into the fair use clause under copyright law (this clearly doesn't as it's being used to promote finacial gain) you have full authority to the pictures use...

It's just like you taking a picture of a model wearing XXX clothing, the XXX clothing company has no rights to the photographs you took... Or a wedding photographer that still (in most cases) owns the exclusive rights to all your wedding photos he/she took... The copyright of the photo falls into a new ownership of copyright as long as the photo was taken within the scope of the law (not by illegal means) and or contract if one was made...

It's really sad to see a company that has a history of this same thing and has had it brought to their attention doing the same thing again and again... One of these days they just might use a picture of someone who does care and then they might very well have to pony up...

Yeah. What he said. :p

They have acces to the screen used props, don't they?
So why do they have to use pics from other's replicas?
Why don't they use a pic of the original prop and say "coming soon the replica of this prop"?
Regards

I'm pretty sure the V2 no longer exists at LF. Didn't they use a fan OB1? I assume they'll use a fan Luke V2. Look for your licensed saber soon, Russrep.

Oh, and they spelled it "Kai" Adi-Mundi. AND it's not the one he had in EP III. Though I consider that a straight-up continuity gaffe.

Sheesh.
