Question What gets people banned here commonly (answered)

I was reading the life sized tie fighter thread and noticed a rather new user was banned... Was curious as to why, so looked at his 29 posts and don't see anything incriminating. Just wondering so that I don't make the same mistake, as I've been a member for a while, but just became more active in posting...

Nevermind I understand now. You guys call the term sock puppet here. In another forum we called them Mults. Multiple identities.. Found my own answer.

At one time there was a running list of the Banned Members and the reasons they were banned under the Forum Announcements Section, I can't seem to find it now however....

Droid,

You can see the reason a member was banned here:

In regard to Darth Darren, he was a sockpuppet of a previously banned member.

To answer your question, the general overriding principle for why most people get banned comes down to a simple equation of liability outweighing contributions. If you are more of a pain than an asset, you won't last long here. If you are a positively contributing member and add to the community, you have little to fear. If you are constantly pushing boundaries, trying to find loopholes in the rules, stirring up trouble and inciting the staff and/or the membership, you won't make it very far. If you are here to scam members or take advantage of the sites resources, you won't last long. Aside from that, as GNDN said, just read over the rules, and if you have any questions, we will be glad to clarify them.

Yea, that's what I found in one of the forums.

Thanks for the clarification. I had come across the sock puppet reference in a couple threads and finally put it together as the Mult reference I was used to. Anyway, you wont find me in any of those situations. I prefer to do any buisiness through ebay rather than privately for the most part anyway, mainly because I like the protection it offers buyers and sellers.

For fun, do a search for "Razmeister" in the list and count 'em.

(And just FYI, his banning had nothing to do with selling or buying on the RPF.. it was more of a pathological problem with boundaries, which you see manifested in the fun suggestion above.)

Which reminds me.... ;)

Well posting homophobic message doesn't get one banned. Even when you use the "Report Post" and PM a Mod directly (without the common decency for a reply).

One thing you can expect from the mods is inconsistency and playing by the rules when they feel like it.

dont quite understand your message. someone posted a bad reply to one of your posts? I am gay and have not seen a homophobic message here. A couple jokes in a few posts, but didn't feel any hate was behind it...

There was a post, someone used an emoticon with a slur (****)... I pointed it out, it was washed over.

Funny that I cannot even post the word used, yet this member was able to get away with posting an image with the word in question.

Well if that type of thing persists I am sure the mods will take action. But a one off comment shouldn't get you too angry unless it is a re-curing issue.... The mods I am sure busy with tons of things and I am positive they have a keen eye on the person you flagged, but as far as banning, unless a law or RPF rule was broken I would think they would want to leave it alone.
