What Did The Screen Used Half Maul Saber End Look Like?

So I have an MR BD Maul saber coming (yay!) which I've always been very fond of, but I don't overly care for the crystals in the severed end. I'd like to devise some non-permanent insert for display that I can remove if I ever need to sell it (sabers are my savings account!).

My feeling is to get a shallow plastic cap and glue in some rods and wires and so forth cut at the appropriate angle. But I was wondering if anyone knew what the actual screen-used end looked like. Was it just bare gray resin? I assume so, but...

I cant find pics yet, bvut according to the wikia and other sources his saber is simply two sabers joined at the hilt, and not a big double bladed saber.
According to most SW refernces on the build of sabers, the power supply is located usually in what would be the pommel, seeing as how the saber was cut in half and one side still worked, its safe to assume that both severed areas would contain charred remains of the power cell.

This is from a collection on Facebook. It came from the LFL 911 auctions...

He's asking what the actual prop that ray park used looked like. After the scene when it was cut in half, what did THAT prop look like ?

I've never seen any pics of the actual thing. I'm interested to see as well.

Yup, the cut end of the actual film prop is what I'm after. I'm sure it had no detail, just blunt resin, but I'm curious.

I have an old screengrab that shows a little. I just installed Win7 so I'm going to redo all my screengrabs/wallpaper in higher res so hopefully in a few days I can post a bigger pic for you.

Hey Cayman Shen--I just want to impart a small piece of advice. If I understood you correctly, you want to make a piece to insert into the end of the BD Maul ~over~ the existing crystal end-piece... Do as you wish, obviously, but I just want to say be careful, as the paint which is airbrushed onto the end of the BD Maul saber is very thin and will actually rub off quite easily. I know from experience, unfortunately, and it can be very difficult to repaint it convincingly.

Oooh, thanks for the advice! Maybe I won't tinker with it. It's not an inexpensive saber!

Still, I'd love to see those screengrabs, SVS!

That's better than what I got. It just looks like some round rod detail or something. I'm surprised we haven't seen a pic of the actual prop yet.

I like the uneven level of the cut. It reminds me of the uneven cut on the rod of the V ader "ROTJ." Not an intentional homage, I'm sure, but neat.

I wish the MR looked this way.

The real answer to this question is that George Lucas had a choice of a practical saber ending or green screen. He chose this:

Wow, my MR BD Maul arrived today. The pictures do not do this piece justice, nor does the crystal look as cheap and cheesy as on the FX Maul. I'd have to say this might be, after the Kenobi ANH, my new favorite MR saber (and I've had the OB ANH, the Luke V2, the Vader ROTJ, the OB TPM EE, QGJ, Dooku, Ani and OB ROTS...this one is really, really well done).

The only fly in the ointment is cracking o-rings. Anyone know off hand what size I'll need?

JediFyfe--:lol That's awesome. This does, however, make me feel that I should find a resin Maul and slice & dice to make it look like the screengrab. That would be pretty neat, yes?

The MR full Maul LE can be had for like 250/275 lately. Buy one, sell the case, COA, etc, you've got maybe 200 into it then. Chop it in half. Sell one half, you've got maybe 50, 75 bucks into it now. You've got a nice metal saber. Unless you're a fan of resin (more screen accurate in this case, I guess). I'm not nuts about it. I've used it a few times (Yoda TPM, VADER ROTJ) but seriously, the LE is going for peanuts.

I believe the sith stalker has mauls lightsaber half on his belt. might be a place to loog for reference
