I wanted to start this one because I as a newbie am just starting out and don't have a lot of money to spend. I would like to know what products have work really well and for what application for other users. Please include a picture of the product and the completed project.

For a beginner, smooth-on products have a reasonable price point, should be readily available in your area, and there are lots of tutorials on their website.

hope that helps,

I like to use silicone as a mold rubber. It may cost a tad more, but it alleivaites allot of potential problems.Of course, there are pros and cons to using everyting and you do have to be careful/knowledgable about certain products that may not work with RTV silicone. Some have negative, reactive properties.Sulfur is a big one as are some resins and other products.I also prefer to use urethane resin for castings. The shrinkages is negligable as opposed to polyester.Again, there's always a trade off.Urethane costs a bit more and often times you have a limited potlife. Some set in 2-3 min others may have a slow setting time and take 10 min.Urethanes tend to attack mold rubbers too.Its a mixed bag and I suppose much depends on what you are wanting to accomplish?

I have only used the stuff from Micro-Mark so far and have not had any trouble except the mold rubber went bad even though I kept it in the refrigerator. However, the actual performance of the product was fine.
