WETA: District 9 Guns

No offense to those guys and thier 'investments' but I would love a 'second chance' later down the road. The size of the run should not influence your decision to buy it, all that tells me is you want to flip it for a higher price once they're sold out. That's cool and all but extremely selfish twords people who missed out the first time and a second chance would be like a blessing from heaven.

I can see your point, and certainly agree with where you are coming from...
BUT the size of the run was what DID influence me to buy it.

I think the short run makes it highly desirable, but its a bit unfair to say our decision to buy is a form of 'ticket touting', and only buying it to flog them on later :rolleyes

Man, thats odd. Mine was $24 shipped to Atlanta. the thing is 40" long, I figured it would be way more than that.

On the 200 or more issue, I would be miffed if they turned around and said "hey, we've actually got more to sell" because an increase in the run should mean a decrease in price.

I am lucky enough to own a 'Mini Manmelter' which I found on ebay. That was produced for the SanDiego Comic Con, and sold out. They haven't re issued it, in any form. I think they are trustworthy:love

Also, don't forget you earn 'Weta Dollars' ( $54 I think, 'Oz' money) which basically means that if there is something else Weta sell you fancy, you can buy it with these 'dollars'. I quite fancy the 'Victory' book, which I can now get for 'free', and still have about $20 left over for next time. Its a great deal.

It will be interesting to see if they clean up the master and create new molds or if they just make them exactly like what was seen in the movie. As you can see in the pictures below, they really never cleaned up the CNC marks on the master before they created the molds. So the question is, would you guys want it to be screen accurate or a cleaned up version? From the pictures they have been showing it does not look very cleaned up to me which might upset some people.

Yeh, I love the CNC / RP marks personally....
The close up of the tip on the weta site shows it really well.
Mind you, if they need to do a lot of cleaning up on the casting, some of this detail 'may' be lost. Who knows!?

ON the site they say they are "EXACT" copies and that is what I would want and expect. I don't want any cleanup or idealization. I basically want it just the way yours is and the originals were... boogers and all. Granted whether they clean them up or not, this is probably the cheapest and most accurate replica of this prop we will ever get, but if I had a preference, I would rahter see it with all the milling marks left in place.

Damn I wish this was a bigger run, no way I'll come up with the cash before these sell out. :cry

I feel your pain! I'm still trying to play catch up with some other props I have missed and just bought an T-800 endoskull.I'm depleted of funds.why prop gods !!why!!
why must they release these awesome guns when I'm flat broke!?LOL
:cry

Seeing as they don't take any money until ready to ship and u can (prob) cancel it, why don't u just order one and by the time its been delayed umpteen times etc. you could probably afford it. :)

My thoughts exactly.

any answers appreciated:
-Do they bill you once you preorder?
-Do you need to provide Credit card info on preorder?
-Can you cancel?
-Do you get charged for cancelation?
-when does it bill/ship?

1) Nope, they only bill you once they are ready to ship
2) Yes, they need credit card info
3) Yes, you can cancel
4) No, there is no cancellation fee.
5) They said they are pretty far along, and should ship in Q2 of this year, so sometime before April.

Also, Tim from Weta posted this over at sideshowcollectors.com today:

"Thanks for your interest everyone
Yes, the ES will remain at 200. We would not increase it after already announcing it. I am not aware that we have ever done that before.
Pre-orders are going very well. So if you want to be sure of getting an Arc Generator, we suggest you pre-order very soon.

Cheers
Tim from Weta "
