WETA: District 9 Guns

1) Nope, they only bill you once they are ready to ship
2) Yes, they need credit card info
3) Yes, you can cancel
4) No, there is no cancellation fee.
5) They said they are pretty far along, and should ship in Q2 of this year, so sometime before April.

Also, Tim from Weta posted this over at sideshowcollectors.com today:

"Thanks for your interest everyone
Yes, the ES will remain at 200. We would not increase it after already announcing it. I am not aware that we have ever done that before.
Pre-orders are going very well. So if you want to be sure of getting an Arc Generator, we suggest you pre-order very soon.

Cheers
Tim from Weta "

Tim hinted in another post somewhere that if these go well, they'll keep making them (read: the other weapons, not increasing the edition size).

Just to be clear, Tim said they were far along and would be shipping by the END of Q2, which I took to mean by summer (June/July). I think there's a bit of lead time here from pre-order -> payment.

Yeah, I saw that! I hope that means we get the alien canister at some point :eek

I thought Q2 ended March 31st? At least for the US anyway. Is NZ on a different system?

I wonder if it's completely 100% static? (before you say it, yes, I know that would be completely screen accurate unless you're a prawn) I would at least like for the trigger to "click".

Actually they're not completely static. The rhomboid grey panel slides up and down, an LED lights up and the circular doodad it sits on starts to spin. Or is that a different gun? Something you see in the closeups during the gun-testing scenes. Grey panel looked the same.

Surely you're not talking about the WETA replicas.

This is an amazing opportunity! I am not really a fan of the film, so I will pass, but seriously this is just really cool that WETA is doing this and the product looks amazing. Congrats to all who manage to snag one of these!

SO many cool designs... but I think aside from the Arc Generator and the rifle Christopher carries... and possibly the short cannon Wikus picks up and attacks the voodoo cult with, I don't know how interested I would be.

I bit the bullet and pre-ordered one. So now there is one less out there for everyone else.

So just to confirm, they expect to ship near the END of 2qt which will be May,June, or July; Correct?

If they hold true to their projected delivery time, June at the latest.

Since I too remembered that there was something lighting up and moving on the side of the Arc Generator in that scene, I rewatched it yesterday and it definitely looks like the lights and movement were digitally added in post-production. When you see Wikus's Alien-Hand on the trigger of the Arc in the monitor, there are no lights.

Propwise this scene is a total mess painful to rewatch, since they used two different guns :unsure At first you see a scientist from behind mounting one gun on the rig, when you see him from the front the gun suddenly changed to an Arc Generator that is being mounted pointing in the wrong direction :confused After that whenever they show Wikus's hand it's on the (white/grey) Arc Generator and when they show his face there are (black) cylinders from another gun in front of him. Both angles are being shown at the same time on two monitors in the room from where Wikus's father-in-law and another MNU guy are following the tests. In one shot you even see the Arc Generator's "barrel" on the upper screen and a total of Wikus with another gun on the lower screen. I demand a special edition where they fix this, since I can't unsee crap like that once I noticed it :lol

Beat me to it. Tim from Weta has been posting on the collectible forums that 'preorders are going very well'. Excellent.

Oh, he's also confirmed that the ES will remain at 200.

Thanks for the info, Barbatus. You may well be right, but some of the other guns do have lights too - although that could also have been added in post.

Anyway, if the Arc gen doesn't have this feature (and it won't), that's fine - it'd be a nice mod for owners to build in. Maybe a sound board and speakers too? :)
