WETA: District 9 Guns

Hi everyone

Also, be aware the 3rd D9 full size weapon will be on display at Comic Con, and is opening for pre-orders very soon.

Mmm, my interpretation of this was a 1:1 scale weapon. I may be wrong though!!!

I had no idea however that there was going to be another sculpt - very interesting indeed!!!!

I know some of you are curios so here you go.

I was going to do a big review but there really is no point. You pretty much have exactly what I do you lucky bastards! :)

OK, there are some differences but we already knew most of this stuff.

  • My gun is slightly bigger. I assume this is because it a 1st Gen copy or the material used for casting did not shrink as much.
  • It's solid super stiff rubber/foam not hollow fiberglass.
  • My gun is half a pound heavier.
  • I have a shiny finish. Kinda wish the white one had a bit more gloss to it.

The other stuff is pretty obvious just by looking at the picture above. I still think this is the best replica anyone has created for the money. Weta Rulz!

Is it terrible that within less than 3 hours of getting my Arc Generator, I am already adding weathering to it? Still got a long way to go, but here is a start!

Hell no, it started to looked like a "used" AG. Keep the pics coming, Andrews. :thumbsup

Edit:

Crud. Posting from Mirax's laptop....

Don't expect too many pics too soon. I am really really bad at painting. The only reason I can do this at all is because I can be sloppy with it. I am trying to decide exactly how I want to procede. I really think Weta gave us a great base coat of weathering and now I think I want to lay down at least two, possibly three layers of grime. I am also added just a slight bit of silver to the finned areas and at the end will add some of the black rub marks we see on the prototype. While I am using the screen used gun as inspiration, I accept that I will never be able to match it, so I am just going to do my best and go from there.

BTW, I told Art we need to take some pictures of me with this gun because I don't think pictures do it justice on the actual size of this thing. It is HUGE! I couldn't believe it when I saw it up at my work. I tried holding it as you should and I could hardly do so it is so big! Seriously one of the most impressive props I've ever seen. WETA did an absolutely amazing job on this gun. Ridiculously awesome, as is the price for such an amazing piece.
