Warhammer Dark Elf

Just wanted to introduce myself. I've been doing R&D for companies for years, specialty jewelry and bunches of other stuff. You can view my stuff at Wildwood Studio or my fb fan page.

Otherwise I'm going to add some pictures of some of my stuff here. If you have questions let me know. This was a commission for a Warhammer Dark Elf Sorceress.

This is the beginning sculpt. I'll post on the threat all the way to completion with the model wearing the costume.

Bah! I keep forgetting that. I actually need to reformat everything on there to make it more up to date and easier to navigate. Most people have trouble finding the galleries and I don't think it's set up as smooth as it could be.

awesome sculpt!:thumbsup two questions.. did you make cast your model before the sculpt to work off of? if so what method did u use?

Edit:just noticed the CC logo on the manequine! haha

Actually the client is about a thousand miles away and all I was working with were measurements. Most everything was sculpted on the mannequin fitting into the clients specs.

For the gauntlet one of my friends let me "borrow" her arm so I could sculpt it to scale as I didn't have a mannequin arm to sculpt on. For this process I used Alga-safe from here to do a body mold.

I'll post pictures of the process next.

Using Alga-safe a smooth-on product you can find here. I made a box mold and made sure the model was comfy. Using a squirrel mixer I mixed the alga-safe 1:1 by volume with warm tap water.

When completely mixed pour the alga-safe into the box mold filling it 90% of the way to the top. Have the model flex hands and arms and agitate the material to get any air pockets away for the hand or arm. Let cure to a solid.

Pull the models hand or arm from the mold, add a cap to help support the material. Mix and pour in plaster or hydro-stone wait over an hour for the stone to cure. Tear away Alga-safe. If you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them.

Yeah, too bad Cosplay Deviants didn't accept the set, the costume was stunning. Luckily I got the set from Kassandra. Looks fantastic, you did some fine work.

That's the way it goes sometimes. She should be resubmitting another set soon with the gauntlets on. I think she did a great job modeling.

One more post now that I learned how to make larger images!

How flexible is the mold material? Is there not a chance of damage when he hand is removed throught the wrist point. I ask because I want to do a hand cast but am worried that my fat fingers will damage it.

The alga-safe is rather squishy. As long as you have 1-2 inches of material on all sides of your wrist you shouldn't have any worry about tearing the mold. Mind you it will be difficult for you to remove your hand, and it's a slower process so make sure you have help. The one thing I would recommend that you watch out for is scratching things with your fingers. The alga-safe does not like sharp things.

Doing a forearm and hand was about $30.00 worth of material. Not even mentioning the cost to make the mold box, (Insulation foam sheeting and a hot glue gun.) and the cost of the stone. This whole process typically costs about $60.00 to $80.00 depending on what you buy and where.
