Warehouse 13 - The Tesla Gun

Sup.

So someone might have asked this before, but is their a some kind of parts list of stuff you need to make from scratch and parts you can modify from other objects?

Everything has to be made from scratch except the vacuum tubes (unless you want to make them from acrylic tube). There are no found parts on the Tesla.

And yes this has been mentioned several times before.

trying to figure out what tubes I should use for the back part. anyone got a good data base of physical sizes of vacuum tubes? I have looked far and wide but can't find one. or if you have recommendations for what tubes to use.

Thanks.

I'll see if I can still read the tube details off the ones I have.

I had a copper colored hard drive cable that matched that exactly, so you may want to look there. It was a copper braided cable for IDE drives used instead of the old school flat cables.

Here's an example of one:
Round Single IDE Device Cables 6" - Copper Braided Products Model: IDE6-CU [IDE6-CU] : Performance-PCs.com, ... sleeve it and they will come
Looks great. Even though I think it's the copper grounding strap that I have, I ordered one to have on hand =)

The black screw looks a lot like a black computer case thumbscrew. It even has the Philips head slot in the top. It looks like some that I have.

I would like to see that black button. Can you post or PM me a picture. I HAVE to find it.

Almost there. I sent the box to My Case Builder and had foam cut nice and smooth. Good news for you is, I let them store the details so that if anyone else want's them to cut one, they have a template which should save you a bit of time and money.

The foam has a black velvet surface and I have used self-adhesive backed black felt on the sides and top of the box. Here it is with out the meter buttons and cable assembly. I'll post final shots when that's done.

Okay, this should about do it. The original has no actual lock mechanism. And I'm not completely satisfied with the black knob on the meter. I'd like to find one that matches. But for now:

Sorry I took a while to get back to you.

For the main tube I found PL500 or PL504 tubes look great.

For the rear tubes a few would work. For the short fat tube on the left you could try a 5HA7 or a 6AG11 (I think that's what it says).

For the thinner one on the right try a 6CM7, a 8FQ7 or 8CG7.

Looks like they have just completely removed the lock from the box as you can see where it was, Maybe they had no key for it or it was removed when they found the box. I was told by a friend that he has seen them sold as "tea boxes" used to hold a selection of fine teas.

As for the black screws I'm still looking for where I put them. Obviously I put them away too carefully.

Actually, Artie uses a key to "open" it in ep. 1. They are all simple skeleton keys, so any one that fits in would open that kind of lock. But, yes, they did remove the lock mechanism inside. Guess no one was supposed to notice that. I"m still hoping to find the correct black knob for next to the binding post on the VU meter

Two quick questions: Are people removing the lettering from their vacuum tubes (GE is bad but "Marconi" seems really inappropriate on a gun made by Tesla!)? If so, how are they removing these letters? Goof Off doesn't work, that's for sure!

Second, what are people using to glue the base of the glass tube to the aluminum or brass? Hot glue? Epoxy?

Thanks!

Steve

Those valves aren't really suitable as they have a heavy plastic base on them. Better off with a PL500 which Tesla does make as well.

Use a Tesla one and keep the printing on it or just shave/scrape it off with a razor blade or very sharp knife edge. Comes right off.

You could just use silicon sealant. That way you can get it back off if it breaks or needs removing for some other reason. On the rear ones you could also use foil tape stuck around the pins and aluminium parts they sit on. Of course if you never want to remove it a bit of epoxy will work.

Mine all came off quite easily with a strong alcohol like nail polish remover. That on a Q-Tip works like a charm.

Yup - just pointing out that Tesla is actually a brand, and it would be a neat twist to actually have that on it as an original detail.

There's a lot of interesting new/used electronics on eBay out of Russia and the region. I've gotten a few things that way for my Metro 2033 Volt Driver build. Having a little DC mA analog meter or a small rectifier that actually has Cyrillic on it just can't be beat :)
